palaeoboy Posted November 2, 2006 Share #23 Posted November 2, 2006 LCT is the 28mm man. In a complimentary sense of course.
KM-25 Posted November 2, 2006 Share #24 Posted November 2, 2006 It would be great to see that comparison on a film camera to clearly see those corners we are missing.
lct Posted November 2, 2006 Author Share #25 Posted November 2, 2006 Hi Joel, i don't know if the new Elmarit can be considered as the worthy successor of the M-Rokkor but this is the kind of lens that Leica should have launched much sooner as far as size IMHO. woodyspedden Posted November 3, 2006 Share #26 Posted November 3, 2006 I was considering the purchase of a 28mm lens, Elmarit or Summicron. Now I am thinking on a Summilux 35mm. The luminosity is a very important variable to me. But the Summilux 35mm ASPH has a lot of vignetting at the widest aperture. I am not sure about how this lens would perform in the M8. I have owned the 35 lux for a number of years and i personally think this is the most important lens in the Leica arsenal. Wonderful low light shooter, fabulous resolution, and both micro and macro contrast simply have to be seen to be believed. If you could only have one, desert island, lens this would be the one for me. i am surprised that more M shooters don't give this one the raves that are deserved. woody
steve_l Posted November 3, 2006 Share #27 Posted November 3, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Of course the 35 is great....but now (M8) you need a 28 to get a 37mm equivalent field of view, and a 24 to get a 32mm equivalent....the "new 35"

bradreiman Posted November 3, 2006 Share #29 Posted November 3, 2006 thanks for the examples lct. very nice. its very tempting this 28/2.8 at the new price. i really want a 24 or 25 to use the wide framelines on the m8. anyone want to start a petition for a 24 elmarit asph at the new sub-$2000.00 pricepoint? that i would jump on in a second. lct Posted November 3, 2006 Author Share #30 Posted November 3, 2006 Couple of new Elmarit's pics at f/5.6 & f/8. Contrasty lens indeed. Beware of blown highlights digital newbies! Did not check yet but it should make a great combo with the new Elmar 50/2.8 i bet. http://tinyurl.com/rv7w/EPSN2793-afterweb.jpg http://tinyurl.com/rv7w/EPSN2793-after_crop01web.jpg http://tinyurl.com/rv7w/EPSN2793-after_crop02web.jpg http://tinyurl.com/rv7w/EPSN2814-afterweb.jpg http://tinyurl.com/rv7w/EPSN2814-after_crop01web.jpg http://tinyurl.com/rv7w/EPSN2814-after_crop02web.jpg (Epson R-D1, 28/2.8 asph, 200 iso, f/5.6 & f/8, full frame & 100% crops)
