Hello,

has anyone seen this lovely old monster? I think, is very rare. Its a Leitz VIIIk of 1933 or 34. More pictures and information here: (sorry, still in german) Leitz VIIIk

Hello JC,

a VIIIm would be very nice too, but why do you think so?

Let me explain, why I think, it´s a VIIIk:

The original instruction was lying in the carrying case, and it´s the instruction for the VIIIk.

The VIIIm has a lamphouse of three barriers, but mine has only two.

The VIIIm has a bigger water-cooled heating filter. (But I don´t know the size of the two different filters)

The VIIIm ha a 750 Watt bulb, but mine has a resistance for 400 Watt/ 125 v in the carrying case.

So, I think, it´s a VIIIk. :)

Yours sincerly

Nils

Hello, JC,

please, explain your opinion, that my projector is a VIIIm. I´m interested in your arguments and information about it.

best regards

Nils

here you see the dimensions of the VIIIk compared to the Uleja, VIIIb and VIIIs, parvo I and suitcase projector. On my website you can switch them on ...

Hello,

the only reference book about Leitz Projector I own is the one from Dennis Laney Collectors Guide;

in the pages 342 & 343 he illustrated the VIIIm & VIIIk, it looks that the pictures he used illustrate well the difference in between them, specially the shape of the water cooled heat filter and the lamp of your own had, may be, be changed.

Any way VIIIm or VIIIk your own is really beautiful ! congratulations!

OK, your VIIIs is lovely. But monster ? Then, what about my VIIIk nº29064 with its Dimax 25 cm ? In its 14 kilos wooden "carrying" case, there is even a transformer ! I call the set my "Steam Machine Projector"...

Hello Pecole,

what a lovely monster, too. I think, it´s of about 1935 up to 37, because of the Dimax 25cm and the window shutter. Early projectors like mine (of about 1933, 34) had no window shutter and the Dimax 20cm and 25cm had been offered since 1935 or 36 for the Leitz VIIIk and VIIIm. And projectors have got a number since 1936, older projectors have no number.

See in this brochue of 1934: Theres no window shutter and no Dimax, and only the VIIIi and VIIIk, but no VIIIm. http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-wiki.de/images/6/62/Projektoren-Prosp-1934.pdf See on page 9 and following.

best regards

Nils
