Leica's efforts are hardly visible here. http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-kundenforum/82312-leitz-park-im-april-2.html Much better with grass and threes...!!!! I would hire a French landscape gardener anyway... a touch of sophistication would be nice...

rosuna Posted May 21, 2011 Share #24 Posted May 21, 2011 That puts Ludwig Mies Van Der Rohe to shame. He would have employed steel and glass... It would have been much more expensive and maybe not as functional for a production plant.
delander † Posted May 21, 2011 Share #25 Posted May 21, 2011 Brits, sorry, a jumble. Perhaps in the past but not so much today. Modern architecture is global. Go look at the Mclaren building (easily found on Google) designed by Foster. Come on now, lets say it as it is. I'm sure the Leica buildings are functional and efficient, but visually they are simply boring cube structures. Jeff
rosuna Posted May 21, 2011 Share #26 Posted May 21, 2011 You know, these days many vineyards are hiring famous architects for the design of very expensive buildings that serve as hotels, wineries, and business centers. Those buildings are spectacular and quite expensive. For instance, look at Frank Gehry projects (there is one in Spain: Marqués de Riscal vineyard if I remember well). Leica's project for the future seems to be different, and it has nothing to do with that kind of show business connecting tourism, leisure and wine. Leica needs a factory and design center. A good place for a very specific and specialized type of work and product.
mjh Posted May 21, 2011 Share #27 Posted May 21, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Saugstelle = Sinkhole? I must admit I have never come across that word before. But while I’m unsure as to its exact meaning, I’m positive it isn’t German for “This place sucks”. Edit: Apparently it is some kind of fire hydrant. ho_co Posted May 21, 2011 Share #28 Posted May 21, 2011 :D Thanks, Michael! (That idea had crossed my mind, and obviously that of the photographer who made the shot. )
pop Posted May 21, 2011 Share #29 Posted May 21, 2011 Saugstelle = Sinkhole? It's the watering hole for the fire brigade. In other words, it's where they can pump for water if and when.
