pascal_meheut Posted October 31, 2006 Author Share #41 Posted October 31, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) and... it looks as if you've already taped over the red dot as well as the M8 lettering on the front, haven't you? Yes, I did. Not first thing but when I took my M7 to compare them, the old habit came back.

rosuna Posted October 31, 2006 Share #43 Posted October 31, 2006 Pascal, could you ask to your dealer how many M8 he has received? I would like to know how many he expect to recive in addition to the first round, and when, if possible. Here, in Spain, my dealer is giving me contradictory information. I am the number 1 in the queue. However, he says that the first M8 will arrive... in January!!! I cannot belive this. I am checking this information with Disefoto, the official importer in Spain. Thanks for your post. Ruben.

Thanks for your post. Ruben. The official dealer in Greece says exactly the same thing. The Leica M8 will be available in January. They also said that there is no official release date from Leica Germany. If you check the Leica site they say "The LEICA M8 will be available from the end of November 2006 on". A little bit confusing since the guys in Paris have the M8 already in their hands. Any Leica inside info? Nikos
rosuna Posted October 31, 2006 Share #45 Posted October 31, 2006 The Spanish importer said me this: "we will receive the first units from the next week [fist week of November], so the innitially planned dates will be met". I think the original plan was to deliver at least a few units from the second half of November.

pascal_meheut Posted October 31, 2006 Author Share #47 Posted October 31, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just talked with my reseller: he received exactly one and he is expecting some others but no firm date yet. I do not have any real shots to show yet: a cold, bad weather and some work to do are not the best conditions to try a new camera. But this morning, on my way to work, I made a DOF test. I shot a church (Notre-Dame in Paris) from a bridge. According to Google Earth, I was at 350 meters. The lens was the 28mm/2 ASPH at f/8. First shot was focused at infinity, next one with the infinity symbol in front of the f/2 DOF scale, then 2.8, 4, 5.6 and f/8. The f/5.6 shot is as sharp as the infinity one. f/8 shows less sharpness. This is just a quick test but so far, it looks like the sensor is behaving exactly like a fine-grain film: the DOF scale can be used but with 1 stop less for safety. Here are the pictures, infinity, f/5.6 and f/8. Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! mhoutman Posted October 31, 2006 Share #52 Posted October 31, 2006 If one read German, please look at here http://www.leica-camera-user.com/digitalforum/8325-wer-hat-sie-schon.html?posted=1#post81276 and see the debates on whether it is true or not that Pascal has a M8. IMO really pathetic. Michiel

pascal_meheut Posted October 31, 2006 Author Share #54 Posted October 31, 2006 To have fun. I forgot all my german unfortunately. But I still understand "Das mit dem Franzosen ist ein Fake." Ok, I admit it: I took a M7 and merged it my DMR back to make it look like a M8. And I edited the EXIF on the pictures too :-)

wparsonsgisnet Posted October 31, 2006 Share #58 Posted October 31, 2006 The second one needs to turn up in Boston! My dealer told me that he received the new 28mm lens yesterday. I told him not to lose my cell number.
fotografr Posted October 31, 2006 Share #59 Posted October 31, 2006 .And here is the autoportrait, just shot at 6 A.M, 75mm/2 wide open, 1250 ISO and 1/30 sec. Cute pajamas. ;-} BTW, looking at the photo the lens appears more at f/4 or 5.6.
jpbeer Posted October 31, 2006 Share #60 Posted October 31, 2006 Hi all. I am following with a lot of interest all the threads re. M8 on this forum (have been using an M6 for a long time), but.....with some amusement this very thread. There is however one question I do have (forgive me if I missed something): I read somewhere that Leica (or a dealer) stated that the shipped units would be loaded with a newer firmware version than 1.06. Pascal says he has 1.06. Any well informed opinion?
