pascal_meheut Posted October 30, 2006 Author Share #21 Posted October 30, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Ok, I have it now. Black one, first from my dealer. I do not know how many others he got. I tried it but it was already dark. I shot some pictures in a huge church with just a few people in it and nobody noticed the noise. It was just a quick test but I do not expect it to be more noticeable than a film M. I had however a hard time getting sharp pictures at low shutter speeds but I cannot say this is the camera fault for 3 reasons: because I was excited, because I'm still having this cold and I'm not as steady as usual and finally because I'm used to have the handgrip on my Ms and using it to hold them more firmly. I'll do other tests. I also went shooting into a big train station and even if I was more shy than with a film M and did not want to take any risk with my brand new M8, it proved once again to be a real M: nobody noticed me and those who did paid no attention to the camera. fotografr Posted October 30, 2006 Share #29 Posted October 30, 2006 You about gave me heart failure. When I read that your M8 was "at the shop," I thought you meant it was already in for repair. Have fun!!!
fotografr Posted October 30, 2006 Share #30 Posted October 30, 2006 Have you tried a nice glass of good French wine? Bill--I believe all they have there is the California variety. The good stuff all gets exported. Sort of like trying to find good strawberries in California.

johnbuckley Posted October 31, 2006 Share #32 Posted October 31, 2006 Pascal - Was it your sense that your dealer received the M8 you bought as part of the normal distribution? In other words, do you believe the fact you were able to buy one today signifies that they are now being shipped to all dealers, or was there something special about your dealer's ability to get you this first one? And congratulations, by the way. JB
pascal_meheut Posted October 31, 2006 Author Share #33 Posted October 31, 2006 No, normal distribution but he is good at getting some of the first deliveries.
egpj Posted October 31, 2006 Share #34 Posted October 31, 2006 Just out of curiosity, do have any SDHC cards to try in the camera? I wanted to pick up a couple of the Sandisk cards when they come out but Leica has not listed them on their website.
adan Posted October 31, 2006 Share #35 Posted October 31, 2006 So, Pascal - can you post a quicky self-portrait with camera (in a mirror is fine)? I have a small wager with someone on whether Leica would deliver cameras before the end of the day Oct. 31 which such a shot would resolve. 8^)
grober Posted October 31, 2006 Share #36 Posted October 31, 2006 Good for you! What is the level of firmware in your M8? Thanks! -g
pascal_meheut Posted October 31, 2006 Author Share #37 Posted October 31, 2006 Ok, guys. Firmware is 1.06 and I do not have any SDHC card. I'm using the 2Gb Transcend card I bought for the DMR. And here is the autoportrait, just shot at 6 A.M, 75mm/2 wide open, 1250 ISO and 1/30 sec. Welcome, dear visitor! LADP Posted October 31, 2006 Share #40 Posted October 31, 2006 and... it looks as if you've already taped over the red dot as well as the M8 lettering on the front, haven't you? I would have done the same thing as soon as I got it home. Congrats on the new beautiful camera. Enjoy it, and please share some photos with us as you start to explore the possibilities.
