sreidvt Posted October 30, 2006 Share #1 Posted October 30, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) My friend and colleague Michael Reichman has finished his review of the Leica M8. I've read it and to say that he is pleased with the camera would be an understatement. As it is now 2:16 AM EST, I suppose I should correctly say that the review should be live later today. The Luminous Landscape Cheers, Sean

TimF Posted October 30, 2006 Share #2 Posted October 30, 2006 I was hoping it would be up when I logged on this morning. Its now 7:31 am GMT, and nothing as yet.
scott kirkpatrick Posted October 30, 2006 Share #3 Posted October 30, 2006 He posted a home page picture from the M8 last night (my time, about 10 hours ago), and moved the "new stuff" date up to the 29th, but the article hasn't appeared yet. I guess he decided to sleep on it. scott

TimF Posted October 30, 2006 Share #6 Posted October 30, 2006 As an aside, Damien Demolder of UK Amateur Photographer magazine reports that they received their M8 review sample before the weekend. He has pencilled publication in for the December 2nd issue.
erl Posted October 30, 2006 Share #7 Posted October 30, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) You can access the review now, you just need a little insight. What good is a review if it ain't viewable? Still looking for it. If the reviewer hasn't published it yet, commenters should not refer to it, IMHO. I will check again tomorrow. The real wait, of course is for DELIVERY of the M8. Patience, patience. Cheers, Erl

Michael-IIIf Posted October 30, 2006 Share #12 Posted October 30, 2006 Great review, I particularly like the way he deals with the traditionalism of the removable baseplate, and the way he dances around the price comparisons with DSLRs. But what a terrible web site to navigate around and read. It must rate as one of the most user-hostile sites available.
kamilsukun Posted October 30, 2006 Share #13 Posted October 30, 2006 A very pleasant and sincere review. Small video is also very heplful. Regards, Kamil Sukun

sean_reid Posted October 30, 2006 Share #16 Posted October 30, 2006 Good review, as always. But errors in "16 Bit" paragraph. You may want to e-mail Michael about that. Cheers, Sean
scott kirkpatrick Posted October 30, 2006 Share #17 Posted October 30, 2006 You may want to e-mail Michael about that. Cheers, Sean I did already. Although I didn't see an error. Michael just said "it's eight bits, all right. That's what MY expert says, too." Actually, since they started with the DMR firmware, it can't be impossible to get all "16" bits back as an option. But would you want to have slower review, 1 instead of two frames per second continuous shooting, and half the buffer depth? scott
abrewer Posted October 30, 2006 Share #18 Posted October 30, 2006 Really terrific review Michael. The video is very helpful to communicate the differences, and essential sameness, of this new M. Thanks for sharing your opinions and knowledge with us all. Allan
M'Ate Posted October 30, 2006 Share #19 Posted October 30, 2006 Well worth reading and the video is excellent, although short. Changed my view of Luminous Landscapes as I've previously felt the reviews were less than sincere. This one comes over very well. Look forward to it being developed further. Andrej Kolev Posted October 30, 2006 Share #20 Posted October 30, 2006 Scott, Sean, at first I mean an error in : citation "I asked if there were any true 16 bit files from any camera. he said that he had never seen one (and he's seen them all). He said that files from Phase One backs are 14 bit (they too claim to be 16 bit), Canon raw files are 12 bit, and that various other cameras range from 8 to 12 bits." From my expirience, there are many cameras with 16 bit output and 14 bit also, ranging from cheap to expensive like a Leica DMR.
