stuny Posted April 3, 2009 Share #1 Posted April 3, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) All monkeys except for the black and white colobus and the red colobus have five fingers on each hand. The colobus have but four, explaining why their math system evolved in base eight, making their solving quadratic equations that much more difficult. These lovely creatures tend to be very shy, staying at great distances even though they are curious. This one is in Kibale National Park, Uganda-- just a few kilometers from where I caught the photos posted here of wild chimpanzees ("Amid the Figs"). You can see more in the Uganda & Rwanda photo gallery on our site.

roguewave Posted April 3, 2009 Share #2 Posted April 3, 2009 Stu, gorgeous capture of this figure in the wild. Wonderful contrast with the surrounding foliage & the high definition of his fir.

michali Posted April 3, 2009 Share #4 Posted April 3, 2009 Stuart- I'm going to say it again as with your wild chimps, this is superb! I really like this picture and the way you've framed him in the midst of his habitat. Well done.
michali Posted April 3, 2009 Share #5 Posted April 3, 2009 Stuart- I forgot to mention, I agree that they're at a serious disadvantage, mathematically speaking, as opposed to other primates with 5 fingers!
