CatWorthy Posted May 4, 2009 Share #41 Posted May 4, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) This is one of the few times where I let the desire for aesthetics carry me over the monetary common sense. I mean the brown case I have is 134 USD. Around here you can buy a case for $20-30 that's reasonably well-made and will carry your extra battery and memory. The brown case carries nothing other than the camera, but it's so beautifully styled I just had to buy it.

picturelady Posted May 4, 2009 Share #42 Posted May 4, 2009 Hello! I have 3 cases, the original Panasonic LX3, the black Leica and the titancolored. I think the best one, is the Panasonic case. It has a nice retro style, and it is easy to dismantle to a halfcase, and perfect both with the neckstrap and wriststrap. On the right side it has a little bump, which gives you a nice grip. Finally, it´s relatively cheap. Mine didn't come with a case...I have the one for the Panosonic LX3 in brown, which I ordered from Japan, on e-bay. It was around $150.00 and I really like it. It sounds like the one you are talking about! I reallly like the brown with it...also a Gordon wrist strap. When I first got the camera a few months ago I was using the supplied neck strap from Leica and even though it was put on properly, the strap worked its way through the fastener and I almost dropped it. Luckily I was standing in a safe place and it didn't drop to the ground.
thondup Posted May 5, 2009 Share #43 Posted May 5, 2009 I bought my D-Lux 4 in Taipei and got the case but the dealer accepted an exchange with the grip. Also as I am so used to my M7 I use the VF which is great.
Ed_K Posted May 6, 2009 Share #44 Posted May 6, 2009 Got no free case here in Canada, and as i am still waiting for the viewfinder to arrive, i might consider the half case down the road.
jankap Posted May 7, 2009 Share #45 Posted May 7, 2009 I use the black leather case, that came with the camera. Free, although the price ticket said 95 Euro. The case is a good combination with a wriststrap. Warning: the thin nylon rope of the "official" wriststrap can/will cut through the leather of the strap. I had to buy a wriststrap of another brand. I don´t like viewfinders, have them in variations for my IIIf. So the case fits. It is correct (in advertising), that the camera looks better with the (optional) viewfinder. Yes I understand, for stealth photography a viewfinder is better than the LCD screen. But, "better for one purpose" does not mean "good for the general use". I hope the Hoodman lens will help in critical situations, one is on its way to me. Jan The story continues. This morning the Hoodman lens arrived in Germany. Hoodman costs 75,57 Euro (100 $) Shipping 30,24 Euro (40 $) Import tax in Frankfurt 20,54 Euro. From 75,57 Euro to 136,35 Euro, added "value" almost 80%. Jan
thondup Posted May 7, 2009 Share #46 Posted May 7, 2009 My dealer in Taipei agreed to swap the case for a handgrip which I find much more useful. Together with the dedicated VF its a complete unit
cobbslane Posted May 7, 2009 Share #47 Posted May 7, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I first experienced the leather case with the D-Lux 3 at which time I had to buy it. I purchased the brown one and it was of the highest quality - but for the price it needed to be. I began to understand what leather fetishists are all about.. Alas I succumbed and switched to a Canon G9 for an improved spec and the fetish went with my D-Lux 3 on Ebay. Now that I have seen the light (through a D-Lux 4) I have another case. This time it is the black one which again is superb. However, it was free with the camera which is a credit crunch opportunity here in the UK from Leica dealers. I certainly wouldn't have bought one if it hadn't been free although I do enjoy using it. However, here is a money saving tip....get yourself a Tamrac 5690 (which I bought for my G9 as it fit like a glove). The D -Lux 4 fits superbly in it and is cushioned in a way the the leather case cannot. It has a small zipper pouch on the front for spare card/battery and is built like a brick whatsit....or Sherman tank for our US friends. It also has a neat belt loop which can be employed without having to drop your pants in public to access your belt! Best of all it is less costly than some of you are paying for the leather Leica fetish (nice as it is).....see item 190300509010 on Ebay (UK) at present where it can be bought for £9 incl postage. I bought mine at Boots the Chemist and since it was on open display (not behind a counter) I was able to try it out first without the need for one of those 16 year-old camera shop assistants to help me...
