stuny Posted March 19, 2009 Share #1 Posted March 19, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) In Uganda's Queen Elizabeth National Park we saw this hippo mother and child swimming together in Kazinga Channel, which connects Lakes Edward and George. You can see many more photos from this journey on our site in the Uganda & Rwanda photo gallery.

michali Posted March 20, 2009 Share #8 Posted March 20, 2009 Stuart- Superb, moment well captured! They babies can be tricky to photograph as they're all over the mother and then above and then under the water.

Bob Jackson Posted March 20, 2009 Share #10 Posted March 20, 2009 Very nice shot. I am surprised you were able to get so close to her with the baby present. I always like shots of wild animal moms and their babes. You took a lot of wonderful shots on your trip, and this is one more great moment. Your website is fascinating as well. biglouis Posted March 21, 2009 Share #11 Posted March 21, 2009 Outstanding. All though all shots posted so far are terrific, clearly this one has the added interest of the baby hippo. I like the angle, as though you are in the water with them, which gives an added feeling of intimacy with the subjects. LouisB
stuny Posted March 21, 2009 Author Share #12 Posted March 21, 2009 Bob - Thank you. The hippos are aclimated to the tour boat which passes them twice a day, and I was using an 80-200 with 2X extender. Big - Thank you. The boat we were on was plenty big enough that we did not have to worry about hippos harming us, but it was small enough that I was close to the water.
