plasticman Posted March 15, 2009 Share #1 Posted March 15, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) So I just added to my collection of superfasts with the purchase of an unconverted Canon 0.95. Now I need advice about where to have it converted. I'm in no hurry, and as I understand it from searching previous threads, Dan Goldberg is the best(?) for this work? But exhaustive googling hasn't turned-up any website (or currently even an email, as far as I can see). Anyone have contact details for DAG? I also see a guy called Steve Serrota at Classic Camera Care does these conversions. Anyone have any other ideas or recommendations? Gratefully received - especially if anyone has any contacts in Europe that can do a masterful job, that will allow the beast to focus reliably on the intolerant and demanding M8! (and Jaap - no, I'm not referring to your ex-wife). Mani
Advertisement Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 Hi plasticman, Take a look here Best Canon 0.95 converter for the intolerant M8?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
farnz Posted March 15, 2009 Share #2 Posted March 15, 2009 Mani, It's "Don" Goldberg not Dan Goldberg, which may be why Google played hard to get with you. Don's contact details are on Don's website. Some 12 months ago I emailed Don about the cost etc of converting a Canon 50/0.95 that I was contemplating but he told me that it couldn't be done. I don't recall whether it was the TV lens or the Canon 7/7s lens but I remember being surprised by his reply. I didn't buy the lens so I didn't need to find somewhere else to convert it. Classic Camera Workshop (nothing to do with The Classic Camera in London) was mentioned on RFF as someone who can/has converted them but I have no experience of them. Pete. chris_tribble Posted March 15, 2009 Share #3 Posted March 15, 2009 If you're stuck you could try Malcolm Taylor in the UK. He'll certainly give you an honest opinion on whether it's possible, and is technically well able to do most engineering / Leica related work. He doesn't use email, but if you pm me I can send you his address and phone number
MJones Posted March 15, 2009 Share #4 Posted March 15, 2009 DAG converted a Canon 50/0.95 for me this past fall with 6-bit coding. My copy was not a TV version lens. I don't remember exactly but he said he either doesn't try to convert or just couldn't convert the TV version to m-mount - I don't remember exactly his wording. Regardless, excellent work and very reasonable price.

plasticman Posted March 15, 2009 Author Share #7 Posted March 15, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Many thanks to all of you! What a great crowd!! I'll make a list and of candidates and start mailing. And DON Goldberg! Now for some reason that DAG thing total misled me - DON! That does indeed help to track our man down! Thanks again! I love you guys! (sometimes)
plasticman Posted March 16, 2009 Author Share #8 Posted March 16, 2009 I'm looking into the recommendations - thanks again - and I see that there's a possibility that the guy called Jipps on flickr may be based in London, which would be ideal for me, as I have family and friends there. Anyone know any more about him, including how to get in contact? Well now I spotted his website... and the contact form on it...
Toni Nikkanen Posted January 3, 2013 Share #9 Posted January 3, 2013 Can someone please update here if they managed to get a Canon 0.95 converted to M-mount in an European workshop and if so, which one, how did it turn out and what were the costs and contact details? I have the TV version. Is it true that if I unscrew the rear end off it will reveal a Canon 7 mount? I could consider just buying a Canon 7 instead then and keep it exclusively for the purpose of using this lens.
martha Posted January 3, 2013 Share #10 Posted January 3, 2013 Toni: I don't have any direct answers except that there are a couple Leica mounted .95's on the bay for really big bucks, for what it's worth.
iedei Posted January 3, 2013 Share #11 Posted January 3, 2013 I also see a guy called Steve Serrota at Classic Camera Care does these conversions. just as an FYI...i was looking into older Canon TV lenses last month, and had seen that Steve Serrota from CCC had passed away earlier in the year. ray*j*gun Posted January 4, 2013 Share #12 Posted January 4, 2013 In general Don is REALLY good with Banacks. He did my IIIc (k) when 2 other good tech's were afraid to touch it.
