good evening everybody,

each time i see vdb's icon on this forum i remember how much fun we are having with our dog. he has an incredible energy level and easily manages to get the entire family out of the beds or off the sofa. and he is a great companion for jogging ...

this morning our daughter sophia and i took our boy to a nearby park here in leipzig. for him it's a real workout - he really loves to chase balls - his own and those of other dogs ...

enclosed a couple of shots from today, let me know what you think about them. all pictures taken with m8+75 mm summarit.

ps - to me #3 is really funny. obviously our boy miscalculated the trajectory of his ball and has some trouble changing direction ... :)

They are all outstanding. What terrific energy, expression and emotion you have captured. It is all in the moment for our canine friends. You have inspired me to photograph my Lars tomorrow. Thank you.:)

guys,

many thanks, i'm really happy to hear that you liked my shots ...:)

shutterhack is right - one can do action shots without those dslr features. in this case all that was needed was exercise (ok, i was working on this topic for some time) and anticipation - we planned the trajectory of the ball, so i could put myself into the right position and do some pre-focusing.

actually, several m8 features proved to be quite helpful -

1) rangefinder viewer - i could see lobo moving through the image and hit the release button when he was well within the 75mm framelines

2) extremely short shutter lag - lightyears ahead of my d-lux and considerably faster than my previous eos.

3) short focusing distance on the summarit - just move your fingers a tiny little bit - and you're done. with some exercise probably at par with the speed of af-actuators ... :D

this morning i started to assemble a colection of images of lobo - from the first day he arrived at home until recently. most of them are just snapshots, but taken together they maybe tell an intersting story. i will post the making of our shepard in the next couple of days ...
