Anthony

This is a great set, and as I was the one who asked you to post your shots in a thread a couple of weeks ago, I will take full responsibility :) Thank you for sharing them here and I look forward to lots more M shots from you of a similar quality in the near future. Ron's advice re your Contax shots is good, but if you do upload other Contax shots to SmugMug or somewhere similar, be sure to post a link here.

A Leica product, but no Leica IMO. I own a Digilux I, but in NO SENSE do I consider it a Leica, even though it has better colors than the Digilux 2. On this one we will have to agree to disagree...

and...

Coincidentally, Spoke on Skype to the senior moderator here this PM and we looked at these photos . He liked them and had no problem with them. Keep posting. It isn't as if you were posting files from a Canon 5D! :)

William

As you know there is nothing wrong with posting shots taken with a 5D and Leica glass. Further your earlier comments about Leica's main product line is not welcome and out of order, in my opinion. Why, you even consider the R-line to be something less than a Leica, which is interesting, bearing in mind a response I read on another Leica related email board the other day...

If you want to stick with only Leica rangefinders, I suggest that you pop over to RFF, where you may find folks more to your liking.

This is an inclusive forum for all who use Leicas in whatever form they come as is explained in the rules.

Anthony was completely upfront in his posting and, as a relatively new M user is to be encouraged by all of us here.

Finally, I wasn't aware that there was a hierarchy of moderator on this forum. Perhaps you just consider some moderators to be a cut above the rest, which, of course, it is your prerogative to do.

anthony hi...

i really love those photographs... a very good series.. almost like a full body of small work actually... great sense, directness and mood... this is all.. just good photos and nothing to add....

about non-leica photos....

im very much here with the moderators and william and what they say... william says encourage - very true... and moderators are flexible enough (they are also photographers themsleves) and that is good since there is no risk that the rules will be totally broken by few posts which are not within the rules...

about your ignorans with the internet and those kind of things.... me too.. a total ignorant with computers beyound my direct needs. do u have a mac computer.. if so, subscribe to .mac and then u can use the i-web (or aperture) to make your own websites with great ease and even style.

the intresting thing is that i do make design concepts (in fireworks and lineform for example) which is also used for web designs. but then i have no technikal idea how my concepts come to life on the internet :-)))) but with i-web i really can manage stuff myself - it is so eassy and doesnt requires any technikal knowledge... look at my web - it is all done on i-web and i can change it myself within a few minutes if i want...

Andy,

IMHO, Leicas are made in Wetzlar/Solms. Leica-branded P&S cameras may help keep the boat afloat, and that's a GOOD thing, but give us a break, Leicas they are not. I own one. The Forum has room for all, and those with eyes can discern the differences.

R cameras have been step-children since the SL2 and the R8 development costs almost sank the company, but I'm happy you like your tank and don't mind carting it about. A few of the lenses are exceptional but those in the 28mm - 80mm range are weaker than the M offerings optically due to ease of correction with shorter flange to film differences. If you like SLR.s, you ought to pick up a clean SL/SL2 which has the brightest, clearest viewfinder by far. Naturally, I own one. Sorry for your inferiority complex. R's are fine cameras for those who need/prefer them. They don't suit my way of seeing except for macro. Horses for courses.

As for popping over to the RRF, I like most of the people here just fine with the possible exception of the Chester thread-killers. We have lost too many good photographers here, (Justin comes to mind), due to all the bickering of late. Naturally, your mileage will vary and that is your priviledge.

As for moderators, I know who runs this site and did not volunteer because I did not want to become part of the admin. I moderate another list as it is and know what the job entails. I'd rather keep my independence. Not sure WHY you and Allan volunteered...

Well, given I am the only one from Chester, I have emailed you.

Allan and I volunteered to be moderators because I advised Andreas that it would be useful to have native English speakers on board. For my part, the German moderators command of English puts me to shame, but there's nothing like having someone using their mother language as a moderator. Frankly, I have been pleasantly surprised at how little moderation this place requires (the German side may be different, of course).

You know William, you are verging on being the least self aware person I've met on this forum. You moan about people not being polite and then post this...

" Don't bother yourself about Pete. When he buys a Leica, then he can complain..."

Has it _ever_ occured to you that _you_ are being just as offensive as those you condemn?

How would you feel if someone constantly refered to your beloved M5 - which I'll remind you was a flop when it was released - as a 'brick' in comparison to the other M's? My guess is you'd go blue.

You refer to the Chester thread killers - by which I assume you mean Andy, Pete and myself (although only one of us lives _near_ Chester, none in it as far as I know), and then go on to imply that at least one of us shouldn't be posting since they don't own a Leica. Do you not consider this just a little offensive?

I am absolutely certain if someone refered to you in that tome of voice you'd go running off to the mods.

Keep posting. It isn't as if you were posting files from a Canon 5D! :)

Just on the off chance that this cheap remark is aimed at me, I'd like to point out that every shot I've posted here with the Canon has been with Leica glass. Actually it's a cheap remark who ever it's aimed at.

I'd also point out that I have said several times that I don't have a problem with people posting occasional non-Leica images - something I seem to remember you've described in the past as not being acceptable.

Hey Anthony, don't bother yourself about William, he has trouble accepting that the world has moved on and gone digital- for goodness sake he drives a car made from cardboard and bits of bent wood with nails in it. :D

My personal opinion is that the only REAL Leicas have screw mount lenses and were made in Wetzlar:rolleyes: but unfortunately I don't own one of them any more.

I hope I have not caused offence to anyone by pointing out one of the rules of the forum, I've had them pointed out to me more than once. They don't seem to always be enforced, just look at all the folks who use an alias instead of their real name.

If we are to allow posts using other makes of equipment how would it be if I posted my Speed Graphic work? By William's way of thinking that possibly is nearer the spirit of Leica than eather my FZ30 or D2:cool:.

I repeat, this is a great series of shots.

Cheers,

Pete.

Can't we all just get along? :D

Wow, this thread has really stirred the wasps nest hasn't it? I hope everyone will take a deep breath and remember that we are all brothers and sisters bound by our common interest of photography (and Leica cameras and lenses). Everyone has different tastes and opinions, but shouldn't we all respect those of others even if they differ with our own?

In any case, I appreciate the comments regarding the series, and I really do look forward to getting to know you all better.

As for the rules, I am more than happy to comply with them.

Vic, thank you for the tips. I do have a .Mac account, and have for almost two years now, but I barely use any of the features. I have mainly used it for email, but I am soon to be purchasing one of the new 15" MacBook Pros that were just announced on Wednesday. Once I get that set up and running I will look into building a site with iWeb. Your site looks great, and if it was as easy as you say it was, that's something to look forward to.

Gotta run off to shoot!

Well darn! I still love Anthony's shots, even if they were taken with a Contax.

I'm still occasionally drawn back to shoot with my G1 because it makes me look like a better photographer than I am. Despite that, I prefer my M7 and will refrain from posting any of those banned Contax photos on this site. (Is my Panasonic FZ7 forum approved? It has a Leica-branded lens.)

Although not a senior moderator, I'm suggesting now that some of the wood can be chopped privately in this regard.

The banter detracts from an otherwise great set of images from a great new member of the Forum.

Thanks.

Allan

Count me among those who are happy these were posted. It was obviously not done with the intention to deceive anyone and there was certainly no harm done.

The whole series is very enjoyable and show a relaxed style of shooting. I particularly like the photograph of the potter due to the light quality. I'm glad you're a Leica photographer now so we can continue to enjoy your images.

ps--Although I often post shots from my Lumix LX-1 which has a Leica designed lens, I must admit it is a serious stretch to consider it a "real Leica." It's a Panasonic, through and through.

Cheers,
