Advertisement Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 Hi shaozhuohong, Take a look here about the cost of lens service. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
tgray Posted March 11, 2009 Share #2 Posted March 11, 2009 Write to Leica UK. I wrote to Leica USA and Sherry Krauter about 3 months ago and was quoted approx $110-120 by Leica and $115+shipping by Sherry. Leica also said that having it 6 bit coded would be $175 and the cleaning would be included. Don't know what this means for the UK though...
Ivar B Posted March 11, 2009 Share #3 Posted March 11, 2009 This is probably impossible to say. You need to send the lens to Leica for assessment. If it only needs lubrication etc. is may not amount to much, but if elements need to be disassembled to be cleaned it will cost more, perhaps much more. What Leica does is that they give you a quote, which you can accept or not. It the lens is returned unrepaired, Leica charges around 40 Euros. I would not trust anyone but Leica to service a lens. Tolerances are minute and lenses which have been disassembled by others frequently do not perform as well as they should afterwards.

andit Posted March 11, 2009 Share #5 Posted March 11, 2009 I paid EUR 450-00 to have a 1982 21mm Pre-ASPH Elmarit serviced, adjusted, lubricated and coded by Leica in Solms. This lens was in poor condition and focus was impossible to achieve. It was a lens that I bought used and was not able to check image quality beforehand. The actual lens looked in good condition from the outside and the glass was clear. After the service, it is in perfect condition and delivers fantastic results. They did a lot of work on this lens, if that gives you any indication. Andreas
bill Posted March 11, 2009 Share #6 Posted March 11, 2009 Try Optical Instruments (Balham) Ltd. - Manufacturing, Servicing and Repair of all types of Optical Instruments Roger Hicks speaks highly of them. You could also try Malcolm Taylor. Regards, Bill
