TimF Posted March 5, 2009 Share #1 Posted March 5, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Following the disclosure last week that Leica had terminated the existing R system, I placed an order with SH for a 90mm APO-Summicron-R on the 27th of February. Apart from the usual acknowledgement email I've not heard anything from them so far. An email asking for information yesterday hasn't been answered yet. Can anyone tell me if this is normal service? LUF Admin Posted March 5, 2009 Share #2 Posted March 5, 2009 I talked to Mr. Jamchtchik (who runs SH Photo) a several times during the last days - hey are very busy in Nuremberg putting all the R stuff on to their website. Give them a little bit time... Regards Andreas
j. borger Posted March 5, 2009 Share #3 Posted March 5, 2009 Yes this is normal practice with them! They work on your nerves ... but in the end everything will turn out right.
jaapv Posted March 5, 2009 Share #4 Posted March 5, 2009 You could give them a telephone call - I have good experiences with that.

ErikFive Posted March 5, 2009 Share #6 Posted March 5, 2009 If you have read all the posts about Arsenal you probably know how they operate. SHphoto=Arsenal. Not so good on Customer service in my experience. Some are very happy and some call them crooks.
jaapv Posted March 5, 2009 Share #7 Posted March 5, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Crooks ? Hmmm. In my case they solved a lost shipment very professionally.
ErikFive Posted March 5, 2009 Share #8 Posted March 5, 2009 Crooks ? Hmmm. In my case they solved a lost shipment very professionally. Well. I guess not everyone share that opinion I have friends that are very happy with them, but me personally would avoid using them after hearing to much things about how they operate. This is from two recent threads on Rff. There is many many more if you search... ------------ http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=70177 "Not only are Arsenal prices outrageous, but also Boris K. and his Hong-Kong associate are just plain crooks. Three years ago, I bought a Takumar lens direct from their website (not through an eBay auction sale). They insisted on being paid with Western Union money transfer. Once the payment sent, the item was never shipped. I tried to contact Arsenal Photo on multiple occasions, not to avail. As it was a relatively small amount of money, I didn't take any further action but I have learned my lesson: - I will never again buy anything from Arsenal Photo - I will never again use Western Union to pay for an online purchase. Buyers beware as Arsenal Photo offers many fake, altered or poorly restored items that are sold as rare factory variants (look at the ugly paint job on this poor Voigtländer Bergheil). Cheers! Abbazz" ---------- "If possible, avoid them. Last time I won Minolta Glass 17-35 G with a very good price to me. However, I could not communicate with them about the payment and shipping. Then finally they told me that the lens must be serviced due to some technical problem (?) and asked me to be patient. Two weeks later they told me that the lens could not be repaired so the transaction was cancelled. I guess, they didn't want to let the lens go for price below average and find very clever excuses." ------------- Originally Posted by Prosaic Bad item descriptions, hidden defects, arrogant communication, never again. +1. [type thing]....they claimed i never paid for it [crap]..i provided receipts but they claimed they had no records of sale...i lodged a stolen property claim with ebay [which didnt really do anything apart from make some noise]...then i called them and had my mate call them from within germany, saying he was going to bring the police with him to recover stolen property with my records of sale.....the camera arrived two weeks later"
marknorton Posted March 5, 2009 Share #9 Posted March 5, 2009 Is it the case that SH have bought all the remaining R stock from Leica?

sbelyaev Posted March 5, 2009 Share #11 Posted March 5, 2009 I bought a Rollei TLR from this company through Ebay. When it came to payment I was asked to pay extra 3% if I use payPal.
marknorton Posted March 5, 2009 Share #12 Posted March 5, 2009 I think that's reasonable, paypal is expensive for sellers to accept, more so than a typical merchant agreement with Mastercard or Visa.
stunsworth Posted March 5, 2009 Share #13 Posted March 5, 2009 I think that's reasonable, paypal is expensive for sellers to accept, more so than a typical merchant agreement with Mastercard or Visa. I agree Mark, but I thought eBay expressly prohibited increasing the selling price to cover card/Paypal fees. As a seller I ofter thought this was unfair as it dug into my 'profit' for a transaction - on the other hand it made it much easier to sell internationally. peter_n Posted March 5, 2009 Share #15 Posted March 5, 2009 Can anyone tell me if this is normal service?Yes it is. They will respond to an email before a sale, but never afterward.I think that's reasonable, paypal is expensive for sellers to accept, more so than a typical merchant agreement with Mastercard or Visa.Expenses should be built into the sale price. miami91 Posted March 5, 2009 Share #16 Posted March 5, 2009 On his latest eBay auctions, I think he's building the PayPal fees into his listing. In other words, I bought two lenses on eBay, payed with PayPal, and paid the exact amount listed in the auction (no premium). However, I did notice that the list price was a bit higher than the same item listed on the SH Photo website. I did eBay anyway --- I feel better with the credit card audit trail through PayPal, as opposed to the SH website. Jeff.
miami91 Posted March 5, 2009 Share #17 Posted March 5, 2009 Also, as per Boris' post above, I got a UPS tracking number from him today. Can't tell which item of the three I've purchased it's for (maybe all three?), but it would appear that he is indeed shipping out some of the R gear on recent offer. Jeff.
