hdg Posted October 25, 2006 Share #2 Posted October 25, 2006 This depends on the available money. 1. C-Lux = about € 500 2. Digilux 3 = about € 2500 3. R8 + some lenses = minimum € 7000 4. R9 + DMR + some lenses = minimum € 10000 It`s up to you! Much fun and have a nice day. Regards Hans, with R9 + DMR + xxx
abrewer Posted October 25, 2006 Share #3 Posted October 25, 2006 This depends on the available money. Amen! I recently sold a young grad student friend on the idea of a Panasonic FX07. He came home less than $500 and now shoots his friends' tailgate parties and clubbing around town in sharpest detail with Leica colors. It seems to make him happy! Thanks. jmr Posted October 25, 2006 Share #4 Posted October 25, 2006 Sanjay, welcome to the forum. I agree with Hans about the budget considerations. Obviously it will also depend on what kind of photographs you intend to shoot and what kind of photographer you are.

hdg Posted October 25, 2006 Share #7 Posted October 25, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello Sanjay, the R9 is the actual Leica SLR. It is an analog (semi-)professional system. The DMR is the Digiback to add to the R9. So you will get a digital system, too. With this Combo you will have a hybrid-system and can switch from analog to digital. Regards Hans, who is working with this combo since more than one year
Overgaard Posted October 25, 2006 Share #8 Posted October 25, 2006 Don't forget V-lux which is an all-round camera for little money. And then there is second-hand Digilux 1 or Digilux 2. I think one thing to consider is how small or large it should be. If you want a camera to carry at all times that can fit in a pocket, it's D-lux or C-lux models - or eventually 2nd hand Digilux 1 But if you want to take out a camera over the shoulder from time to time, it broadens the possibilities to V-lux, Digilux 2, Digilux 3, DMR (on an R8 og R9): The Digilux 3 being the most value for the money; almost pro camera but still handy, expandeable (more lenses can be added) and within range economical. carstenw Posted November 25, 2006 Share #12 Posted November 25, 2006 This depends on the available money. 1. C-Lux = about € 500 2. Digilux 3 = about € 2500 3. R8 + some lenses = minimum € 7000 4. R9 + DMR + some lenses = minimum € 10000 It`s up to you! Much fun and have a nice day. Regards Hans, with R9 + DMR + xxx That's too harsh. You can pick up a used R8 in great condition for about €1000, and there are lots of great Leica lenses for much less than €6000, even combined. For example, you could get a 35 Cron, 50 Cron, and 80 Lux for less than €1500 in total. I did. The DMR is about €4500 new, and maybe €4000 second-hand in great condition.
