Advertisement Posted October 24, 2006 Posted October 24, 2006 Hi deborahd, Take a look here Untitled #1. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
martinop Posted October 25, 2006 Share #2 Posted October 25, 2006 Looks like she is in a jovial mood.
fotografr Posted October 25, 2006 Share #3 Posted October 25, 2006 I like some aspects of this image, like the expression, shallow DOF and composition. Too bad the light wasn't better on her face, however. It's a bit too shadowy for me and there isn't enough light in the girl's eyes. Still, all things considered, a very nice photograph. brunom Posted October 25, 2006 Share #4 Posted October 25, 2006 D This photo, to me, is one of 2 areas or subjects, the left side is the portrait and on the right the [ fussy - to me ] background. I mentally cropped it to a verticle image [ left side] and I think it becomes more powerful as a portrait. Also as she positioned looking to our left it may have been better to have placed her more to the right in the photograph. Just my opinions ! But a nice picture of a happy child - and I've always felt that these types of images are the ones that become more important as time passes. The light is better on print. This a scanning of the film without corrections with PS. Thank you for the comment. Thanks Paul, Bruno and Nat! Ciao. semrich Posted October 27, 2006 Share #7 Posted October 27, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) It seems to me that the context is an important part of this image, it is not a studio shot, it is a kid flopped down on the couch is a joyous mood camping for the camera. To me it doesn't need time to become important, it is already, just as it is.
christoph_d Posted October 27, 2006 Share #8 Posted October 27, 2006 Hello Deborah, What I like about your picture is the position of the kid, the smile and that you included the surroundings to give her a context. What I don't like about the picture is the tiny size, the foreground - too much, too dominant for my taste - the background - too dominant with too much contrast which distracts from the beautiful smile of Denise. The lack of light in her face has already been mentioned. Perhaps a stop or two more open (if possible) might have helped by diffusing the background more. On balance, the picture still works for me, simply because you caught her in a lovely moment. Kind regards, C.
fotografr Posted October 27, 2006 Share #9 Posted October 27, 2006 Hi Brent. The light is better on print. This a scanning of the film without corrections with PS. Thank you for the comment. Ciao. Yes, that's a common problem. Scanning can take the life out of a photograph. I wish I could see the print. As Richard mentioned, it's a good moment and doesn't have to be perfect in all respects anyway. Ciao,
deborahd Posted October 28, 2006 Author Share #10 Posted October 28, 2006 Thank you Richard. Do you have some photos of Istanbul? A charming city... --- Thanks Christoph. A stop or two more open? It was possible only with a Noctilux but...I don't have one! Ciao.
brunom Posted October 28, 2006 Share #11 Posted October 28, 2006 Richard My comment about the photo becoming 'MORE' important over time, refers to that aspect of this young girl's life, when she would be grown up and looking back at past events, in her childhood. When I look at photos from my childhood they are very importsnt to me, but at the time they meant a lot less to me. Regards Bruno
jacksparrow Posted October 29, 2006 Share #12 Posted October 29, 2006 Hi, just wanted to say that I liked the picture, a lot, and it deserved many more comments from the forum crowd. It is true that thre are some technical issues, as some others already pointed out, but these are minor things, and when you look at the overall picture, it just works. It's fun, and I bet it captures her personality. By the way, some people complained about the composition... I like it just the way it is; it gives context and meaning to the picture. Thanks for sharing.
fotografr Posted October 30, 2006 Share #13 Posted October 30, 2006 Hi, just wanted to say that I liked the picture, a lot, and it deserved many more comments from the forum crowd. I think that happens with increasing frequency. There are so many posts it's really hard to keep up with them all. Additionally, a lot of people spend the majority of their forum time discussing issues on the Digital and Customer categories. The upcoming debut of the M8 has consumed a great deal of forum space for the past several weeks.
brunom Posted October 30, 2006 Share #14 Posted October 30, 2006 Eugenio Hi You have to understand that commenting on, and expessing a personal opinion is not complaining. I believe that those of us who did the above, had no intention of complaining as such. Regards Bruno
jacksparrow Posted October 30, 2006 Share #15 Posted October 30, 2006 Hey Brunom, maybe "complain" was a harsh word to use, didn't mean that, and I know all the comments were with good intention. Cheers
