Advertisement Posted October 24, 2006 Posted October 24, 2006 Hi abrewer, Take a look here Hoosier Landscape in Autumn 2 . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
richam Posted October 24, 2006 Share #2 Posted October 24, 2006 Allan, Both beautiful scenes. I like this one better for the tree. Perhaps a personal preference on my part.
ddp Posted October 24, 2006 Share #3 Posted October 24, 2006 Bingo! Love it. There's detail in the clouds and everywhere else. Now...just out of curiosity - I wonder how the M8 would have handled it? It's scenes like this that are problematic with DSLR's.....
ddp Posted October 24, 2006 Share #4 Posted October 24, 2006 Allan, I'll also add that I prefer this scene. The tree gives it the framing it deserves and allows the eye to travel in a circle.
andybarton Posted October 24, 2006 Share #5 Posted October 24, 2006 Now...just out of curiosity - I wonder how the M8 would have handled it? It's scenes like this that are problematic with DSLR's..... Perhaps you'd like to explain that comment?
andybarton Posted October 24, 2006 Share #6 Posted October 24, 2006 Really nice shot, Allan. Not like your usual type of shot at all (which aren't not nice )
azzo Posted October 24, 2006 Share #7 Posted October 24, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Now, this is what i call a FANTASTIC IMAGE. One to enlarge and hang Allan. Best Azzo
leicamann Posted October 24, 2006 Share #8 Posted October 24, 2006 Beautiful light..well captured. Thanks for sharing Regards, Leicamann Andy ...yeah those pesky "R" eflex cameras would just be useless compared to any "M" rangefinder for this kind of photography...why don't they just drop the R line anyhow... lambroving Posted October 25, 2006 Share #9 Posted October 25, 2006 Allan, 'Bout time you got a hit... Agree with Dan and Mike about the framing with the tree. Remember..., it's ALL about the light. BTW, where did you find a hill in Indiana?

Specifically pro level - D1X, D2H, D2X. The subtle tones and details in the clouds and shadows would not be rendered as nicely here. Not in my experience at least. Perhaps it's the Nikon sensors, perhaps it's my incompetence with the equipment - but certain scenes I see in film. If I'm going to out and shoot landscapes - I'm going to throw film in an M. Deep shadow detail in a D2X RAW file has a certain amount of noise. Yes, there's detail - but it's a different type of detail. Not real. No idea if this makes sense, but it's what I see in there. Highlights are also prone to losing detail - and if you can reign the highlights in, you have to worry about finicky color shifts. Being that Nikon is now on it's 4th pro body and numerous firmware upgrades - you might think this is something they would have solved by now. I can't speak for Leica digital files, especially the DMR - but it would appear to me they have gotten a bit closer to the mark with certain things. Some on this forum know I was looking at a DMR option last year ( I did own a fair amount of R gear, including the monster 180 Summicron) In the end, I stuck with film & the M's for my personal work. Anything shot for my employer is all digital Nikon stuff. Allan - I apologize for the long winded response here...now back to our regularly scheduled discussion. abrewer Posted October 25, 2006 Author Share #15 Posted October 25, 2006 Mike and Dan, thank you...no problem on digressions. I enjoy the information that falls from them. Andy, Azzo, John, thanks for looking and commenting. The encouragement is very much appreciated. William, don't I get hits all the time??? Thanks for looking. I was thinking of some of your wonderful English shots as I was editing this one, hoping to get as good a result. By the way, this is a view (as are the others I've posted) from the State Park in Brown County, Indiana--about ninety minutes south of my house in Indy. The family has a little cabin down there and I like to retreat to the solitude it offers whenever the wife and I can slip away. Brown County Indiana Thanks Dr. Jim! Dave, and Paul and Paul: thanks for looking and for your kind words regarding the picture! Thanks. Allan
albert Posted October 25, 2006 Share #16 Posted October 25, 2006 Allan, I'm slow to get on the bandwagon but please add me to the passenger list. I like the way you handled the trunk.....a tiny bit of space near the edge....Al
