allamande Posted February 26, 2009 Share #2 Posted February 26, 2009 Nice shapes and texture. It almost looks like an aerial map and invites the eyes to explore. I think the thick white frame distracts from the intricate beauty of the image, IMO. Ece

Michael Hiles Posted February 26, 2009 Author Share #4 Posted February 26, 2009 Ece, Stuart, Thank you both. Regarding the frame, Ece is your comment specific to this picture, or a more general comment? I do these frames to produce an impression of a picture on the wall. This is how I mat and frame. Generally I like the look, but if I am a minority of one...
allamande Posted February 26, 2009 Share #5 Posted February 26, 2009 Hi Michael, My comment is specific to this image. And, in a way addresses how I view an image on the wall vs. on the monitor. On the monitor, it usually works better for me if there is minimal distraction around the image, so those frames that don't distract (by proportional size and color choice) work well for me. For example, if you had this image framed with all black, at the same thickness, it wouldn't have distracted as much as the white (for me). And, if I were to see this on a wall, it would be a totally different story, then I can imagine it being framed with a much wider white mat (than you have here) which would work very well. The gallery format even has some formulaic ratio of mat-to-image size, I think. All the best, Ece
