Advertisement Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 Hi masjah, Take a look here New Leica R gear on eBay. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
TimF Posted March 1, 2009 Share #22 Posted March 1, 2009 You're not wrong there. Earlier this week I emailed Richard Caplan, who still had the lens listed. He replied saying that it shouldn't have been on the site anymore, and that there were "so many people after this lens".
Tim Pullmann i.A. Legacy customers are supposed to be reassured that the S2 will sell to a few pro fotogs i guess.

All we know is there will be a change in the R system, in an unknown future, but Leica does not say a word on compatibility of R lenses they continue to sell to naive or believing people. We're supposed to keep the faith in what Leica doesn't say i guess.

SteveYork Posted March 3, 2009 Share #29 Posted March 3, 2009 With all the deals circulating around the web on new R stuff it's pretty clear that Leica is emptying the shelves. I don't thin it's reasonable for amateurs to buy into the S2, unless it's priced substantially less then first announced. That only means to my mind that the R10 is in fact on the near horizon, probably in 2010. In order to encourage R10 sales, they would have to make it compatible with the last generation of R mount MF lenses. Of course, I expect a whole new line of AF lenses, with tweaked or new optical formulas.

We're supposed to keep the faith in what Leica doesn't say i guess. Only "naive" if you plan to go digital. If you're content with film, then there's some nice, tasty consumer friendly buys out there. But if you plann to go digital, then you're crazy to buy any new leica R lenses, as you allude, unless the need factor is present.
veraikon Posted March 3, 2009 Share #31 Posted March 3, 2009 In order to encourage R10 sales, they would have to make it compatible with the last generation of R mount MF lenses. There are rumours that R-lenses with ROM are compatible with the R10 (No AF of course) but these are rumours - no "official" or near offical statements. Dikdik Posted March 4, 2009 Share #32 Posted March 4, 2009 I see that Boris J. or SH Photo suddenly are moving trainloads of new Leica R equipment on eBay. I am pretty certain that Boris is not selling this on his own account or at the very least he must have some deal or other with Leica as it is next to impossible making money out of R gear these days I presume. Are Leica moving the last remaining R stock? Hello Ivar, the reason for that is very simple an official message of the Leica Camera AG to their fotoshops. It is published in the German Forum (Leica Kundenforum/ Leica stellt R-System ein.... (The original paper is in pdf.)) According to this, they have said in this information 7/2009 from March 2009: Leica will not produce anymore the R9 and the R-lenses. They stop the production of new R-gear immediately. The reason for doing so is, as the paper stated, to embed their experiences and knowledges from constructing the new Leica S2 into a new R-System. As they say, they will make possible a change in the generation of the former R-system. And they will inform their shops "as soon as possible". Furthermore they announce the market introduction of the Leica S2 in late summer this year. Sorry for my bad english language. Best regards from Germany Dikdik
veraikon Posted March 5, 2009 Share #33 Posted March 5, 2009 of the former R-system I would translate "im bisherigen R-System " as " in the current R-system"
