offshore Posted February 23, 2009 Share #1 Posted February 23, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) All right its been raining for a week, the forecast is for another three days of rain and my shutter finger is itchy so take this post as an exercise in boredom. The question I have is are you satisfied with the new offerings from Leica for PMA so far? What would you like to see Leica announce? Let's be a little more original here and not say a FF M8/9 because we can be pretty assured that it won't happen until summer of next year. Let's also stay away from the R10 because that won't happen until summer of next year. So what else would you like?

stunsworth Posted February 23, 2009 Share #2 Posted February 23, 2009 So what else would you like? Free beer, or Cote de Rhone. I'd settle for either.
Shootist Posted February 23, 2009 Share #3 Posted February 23, 2009 I'm one of those users that is presently satisfied with the kit I have, although "IF" I had the money, which I don't right now, I'd like a 18mm lens. So it really means nothing to me whatever they are offering.

andybarton Posted February 23, 2009 Share #5 Posted February 23, 2009 They have already offered those, and not at PMA. The viewfinder has been listed for a couple of months. Does anyone seriously expect them to announce more stuff at PMA?

Pangur Ban Posted February 23, 2009 Share #7 Posted February 23, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'd like to see a new range of retro lenses - based on the classic formulations (and dimensions) of the past but with new glass. Why not bring back the Elmar 50/3.5, the Summar, Summarit or Summitar, the Hektor 28/6.3? Use the same old formulas but made new. Position them as a heritage line - even in LTM. Hopefully costs could be maintained - but how cool would a new Summar be? Doubtlessly impractical economically and in countless other ways, but wouldn't it be nice! Now here's some positive and unique thinking, I like it Pangur Ban. Andy who said anything about this post being serious, it started because I'm bored. You're always so negative whenever I post anything, what is your problem?

Especially for the Elmar. Such an iconic lens. Regards, Bill
andybarton Posted February 23, 2009 Share #10 Posted February 23, 2009 You're always so negative whenever I post anything, what is your problem? Nothing personal! I just don't think that there's anything being released especially for PMA, that's all.
Riccis Posted February 23, 2009 Share #11 Posted February 23, 2009 I'll be more than happy to take delivery on my 21 Summilux...
Pangur Ban Posted February 23, 2009 Share #12 Posted February 23, 2009 What about a new Thambar? Or start producing the IIIf again?
farnz Posted February 23, 2009 Share #13 Posted February 23, 2009 Not an original thought, but an updated Digilux 2; a few more megapixies, an improved EVF, a decent buffer and the same Vario-Summicron lens. That would be hard to resist. Pete.

Yes Andy I'm sure your right but that wasn't the point of this post it was to generate ideas and have some fun so why don't you come in for a change instead of complaining about the water temperature. NZDavid Posted February 24, 2009 Share #15 Posted February 24, 2009 Not an original thought, but an updated Digilux 2...or D-Lux 4 with simpler, manual control, and optical viewfinder.

offshore Posted February 24, 2009 Author Share #17 Posted February 24, 2009 I would like to see Leica develop a 40 mm F1.4 using traditional optical formulae in the same size as the 40 that was developed for the CL/CLE cameras. keeping the size and cost down by not using aspherics and giving us a lens, on the cropped sensor, that is the equivalent of a 50 mm field of view. Small, fast and affordable.
