fernando_b Posted February 23, 2009 Share #1 Posted February 23, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I never read or heard about the Photar 80mm focal length. I all my books and brochures only the focal length of: - 12,5 - 25 - 50 were mentioned. Someone knows anything about it? pgk Posted February 24, 2009 Share #4 Posted February 24, 2009 Photars were/are specialist macro (micro?) lenses which were not only made in various focal lengths but with different fittings - I am currently using a 50mm f/2.8 Photar which has a very non-standard thread and I had to have a custom mount built - it now sits on an extension tube fitted onto either 1 or 2 R series bellows which are bolted onto a modified Myford lathe! (If anyone knows of any shorter focal length lenses which are available please let me know as I have the adapters and need something shorter than 50mm for some work). Martin K Posted February 24, 2009 Share #5 Posted February 24, 2009 Photars were introduced around 1970 and origianlly six were offered, the three larger ones with a 40x1.0mm thread and the smaller three with the microscope thread W 0.8"x1/36". The larger ones were a 5.6/120mm, 4.5/80mm and a 2.8/50mm. The specs for the smaller lenses were 4.0/50mm, 2.5/25mm and 1.9/12.5mm. The smaller ones were changed slightly around 1984 and became a 4.0/50mm, 2.0/25mm and 2.4/12.5mm. Other (microscope) manufacturers offered similar lenses, e.g. Zeiss, Nikon and Olympus. Martin K Posted February 24, 2009 Share #6 Posted February 24, 2009 Correction, the thread on the larger Photar lenses is 40x0.75mm - not 40x1.0mm. Kind regards, Martin
