Advertisement Posted July 3, 2006 Posted July 3, 2006 Hi stevem7, Take a look here 1st shots from my 1st Leica film camera. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Overgaard Posted July 3, 2006 Share #2 Posted July 3, 2006 Wow, you must have been smiling from ear to ear when you saw these. It looks really great, the tone, the contrast, the sharpness and all. It looks like you are set up to just shoot a lot. What I mean is, that I've spent SO much time finding the right film, the right development, the right scanners and all to get good results. You seem to have all that in place. It's really great.

pleeson Posted July 3, 2006 Share #4 Posted July 3, 2006 I'd say you have a quite auspicious beginning. I like #2 best, great lighting with that look of Leitz Phil

stevem7 Posted July 3, 2006 Author Share #8 Posted July 3, 2006 Thanks! Yea, my fave is the one of my dog. Love the M7, and having much more fun than I did with digital. Popped in my 2nd roll today with Fuji Reala and can't wait to see the results. I can't believe I did not buy this camera years ago. Would of saved me a lot of money as I bought and sold so many digitals. Thanks for the comments! Steve
jmr Posted July 3, 2006 Share #9 Posted July 3, 2006 Steve, wonderful light in the dog picture, happy snapping.
grober Posted July 3, 2006 Share #10 Posted July 3, 2006 Steve, Was this a straight scan through your Coolscan V (no manipulation)? I have the same camera and scanner but have yet to see this quality of results from my time in the land of chromogenic films. Please tell us more about your scanning process. Thanks! -g
beramos Posted July 3, 2006 Share #11 Posted July 3, 2006 Steve, great camera in a good hands. I like much the #2 and #3 and I prefer the #2 by the composition and light and also by the expresion of the dog. Great shot! - BR
Alberto Posted July 3, 2006 Share #12 Posted July 3, 2006 Very good, I like the shadows 0n # 3, but all of them are great. Cheers. Alberto

stevem7 Posted July 4, 2006 Author Share #14 Posted July 4, 2006 Thanks again! All were straight scans into the coolscan V. I used Kodak consumer grade BW400CN film and opened the files in Photoshop to resize and slightly adjusted levels, but not much at all. Love the combo so far! grober Posted July 7, 2006 Share #15 Posted July 7, 2006 Thanks for telling us about your scanning process. I'm still amazed at the good qulaity of your results! I haven't used much chromogenic film and have scanned even less. Conventional B&W is out of the question now. I have all the necessary "wet darkroom" gear but just don't want to mess with it anymore. Pro labs in my area would do a fine job; there's even one that ONLY does B&W. But, of course, they charge an arm and a leg THEN the results are not scannable by any Coolscan machine. Chromogenic film is THE only answer. Thanks for showing us some good images with very appealing tonality.
andybarton Posted July 7, 2006 Share #16 Posted July 7, 2006 These are a nice set of shots and exceptional for your first roll. Please post more of your work. I don't know where you have got this from, but I am sorry this is completely wrong. My Coolscan V has scanned a hundred traditional B&W silver films over the last couple of years with no problems whatsoever. All you have to do is turn off the ICE function. You can't automatically get rid of dust and spots like you can with colour negatives or slides so you have to be even more careful with your negatives. (BTW, there was a month long argument on the old forum about scanning silver B&W film. One fellow said it was impossible. Many others proved him wrong. Let's not start another un-necessary discussion )
abrewer Posted July 8, 2006 Share #17 Posted July 8, 2006 I can't get over how incredibly "smooth" these images are on my monitor! They have no grain whatsoever! I'm not sure if that's good or bad! But it certainly is impressive! Thanks. Allan
stevem7 Posted July 8, 2006 Author Share #18 Posted July 8, 2006 A few more - the B&W were using Kodak BW 400CN. Color is Fuji Reala. Welcome, dear visitor!
