So now that I let "G1 Mania" finally take ahold of me to the point where I was ready to make an impulse buy B&H just so happened to be out of stock. Then I started thinking my original reason for looking at new cameras was that I wanted something pretty small that I could slip in my pocket. I went back to the B&H website to buy a LX3 as my "economic stimulus" purchase... BACKORDERED/ Out-of-Stock!!! So my last resort (before heading out to try to find a store in N. California tomorrow) was to check out the Leica D-Lux 4 and I was very surprised they somewhat recently dropped the price to a more "realistic" $699 (I hadn't checked the price of it since before Christmas time.) So I pondered the idea of paying the premium for the Leica version and considered all the advantages of the D-Lux 4 over the LX3 (Capture One 4 being the largest bonus IMO along with the much nicer looking body and 3 yr warranty) and took the plunge. I recently bought LR 2.2 in anticipation for the G1 or LX3 but now I have a D-Lux 4 coming Friday which it's also compatible with... now the "looooooong wait" begins!!! I will of course try my hand with Capture One 4 as well because there's a chance I may prefer it over LR 2.2.

I know I've had issues with and have been critical of Leica's business practice at times in the past but it was not so much their products. The products are very capable photographically.

If anyone is interested or looking for more memory cards, Best Buy has 8GB SanDisk Extreme III SDHC (Class 6) cards for $40 online right now.

Thanks. The LX3 had actually gone up $30 since the last time I had checked the prices (around New Years.) I thought the free case was only available for UK owners...

your right about the free case offer is only for UK buyers.a US buyer still could get the free case if they order through a UK dealer and have it shipped over the pond.@ today's exchange rate(1.43) that would cost a US buyer $664 bucks not including shipping.

was in hk when i bought a c-lux 3 and also got the free case

i asked about the d-lux4 and the sale-representative told me that's a promotion going on with both d-lux4 and clux3. a free leather case for each purchase of either cameras. so i think this promotion is worldwide.

Hi everyone,

Am new to the forum (also a new and happy owner of a D-Lux 4), and just saw that post about promotion and complimentary leather case... As I hesitated between buying it in Switzerland (where I live) and Germany (40 min train journey - 25% cheaper), I noticed that the complimentary case, coming with either C-Lux 3 or D-Lux 4, was offered in bothe countries, until end of march:

Das besondere Geschenk :: Promotionen :: Leica Camera AG - Schweiz - Leica - Hasselblad - Panasonic - Linhof - Zeiss

Actually, I believe also that it's in most countries so.

I enojoy reading the forum, I'll have to now scroll through the archives to find answers to many questions a newby digital camera owner (I was till now, and still am a fan of my SLR and it's Ilford best friends), may have... If I don't find them, I'll have to start posting them to you guys, and hope you'll have patience with me ;)

A nice sunday to all of you, wherever you are (here in Zürich, snowing big time this morning - take monday off to shot :) )

Sebastien

You're doing the right thing by searching for answers before posting your questions but there are plenty of people here who will happily give you advice if you can't find what you're looking for.

Please post some pictures in the Photo forum when you're ready!

Pete.
