andybarton Posted October 21, 2006 Share #1 Posted October 21, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just messing about with the 560 Telyt that I collected this morning. This is an interesting, and challenging, lens... Looking forward to getting out in a hide, maybe next weekend.
Advertisement Posted October 21, 2006 Posted October 21, 2006 Hi andybarton, Take a look here Helping hand. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
robert_parker Posted October 21, 2006 Share #2 Posted October 21, 2006 Andy Looks like it worked well - it's a real piggy of a lens to focus critically - how Doug and John get their shots with movement too, I don't know - which Telyt have you got - 5.6 or 6.8 ? (or is it one of the new ones ---Eeeek!!)
kld Posted October 21, 2006 Share #3 Posted October 21, 2006 Andy, superb composition and title. This photo is a winner, no doubt. -- Klaus
andybarton Posted October 21, 2006 Author Share #4 Posted October 21, 2006 Robert, It's a cheapo 6.8, but it's still a bugger* to work with. The shoulder stock is pretty much uesless. Wander round the streets of Manchester or Liverpool with one of these babies nestled in your arm, and you'd be photographing the inside of a cell overnight (if they weren't already full of real criminals...) * For "bugger", read "challenge"
cboudier Posted October 22, 2006 Share #5 Posted October 22, 2006 Soft tones are going very well with this photo. Beautiful Andy (my girl friend remained stuck in front of the screen when she saw your photo :-)

vic vic Posted October 22, 2006 Share #9 Posted October 22, 2006 h aha andy , nice... man - how can u use such a long lens? :-)))))))
leicamann Posted October 22, 2006 Share #10 Posted October 22, 2006 Andy..you need to "pad" the shoulder stock and also "rotate" the angle of the "lens camera" so that the fit is comfortable...it takes some getting used to. Start like you did here with simple subjects , until you are confident about the stability and focusing point....now to get the 800mm Telyt S:) Thanks for sharing Regards, Leicamann
andybarton Posted October 22, 2006 Author Share #11 Posted October 22, 2006 John. Don't forget with the DMR, the 560 = 750...
fotografr Posted October 22, 2006 Share #12 Posted October 22, 2006 Nicely composed, touching image, Andy. And you even managed to get the eyes tack sharp. ;-}
andybarton Posted October 22, 2006 Author Share #13 Posted October 22, 2006 What's the depth of field on one of these babies at f 6.8? Chuff all, I would think.
leicamann Posted October 22, 2006 Share #14 Posted October 22, 2006 So logic says S800mm = 1120mm..wow now we are talking telephoto!!
dan_drabek Posted October 23, 2006 Share #15 Posted October 23, 2006 So logic says S800mm = 1120mm..wow now we are talking telephoto!! 1250mm was around the effective focal length I was working with on the shots I used to take with the D1 through the TeleVue Ranger scope. It was tripod-only work of course. No good for street shooting, but great for long-range birding. DD
Sandokan Posted October 23, 2006 Share #16 Posted October 23, 2006 great shot in its own right - and the tele is used very well to offset the subject from the background. Superb.
pemayeux Posted October 23, 2006 Share #17 Posted October 23, 2006 Wonderfully executed photo in every regard. Great color and composition!
robert_parker Posted October 23, 2006 Share #18 Posted October 23, 2006 Might be that the later type shoulder stock (the angular one) might be a bit more comfortable, combined with cable relaese (though I never have got mine working with the cable release yet.. ) - remember if you do get nicked, you'll need the extenion tube so that you can photograph the other wall of the cell - otherwise you'll have to jam it between the bars in the window !! :) (ps. as Doug Herr once pointed out never carry it pointing down between shots - the focus unwinds while you're walking !!)
