joppepop Posted February 3, 2009 Share #21 Posted February 3, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Indeed, I'm just wondering which body looks best with both options. I suspect that the Titanium camera will match the colour of chino's better than the black camera, whereas both will suit denim equally well. I totally agree with freedom of choice, I am one of the few who actually appear to like the Safari M8. Anyway, can't help people taking themselves much too seriously. I like the safari M8 too, it would perfectly match my new olive coloured camera bag. For a moment, reading this thread, I thought I might have a problem thinking like this, even if it's just for fun. Thanks, James! You are so right, its rather a problem taking yourself too seriously. :-) And as a reflection on someone's note above, I think that most artists and craftsmen that loves what they do have special relationship with their tools. The tools are never just tools.

joppepop Posted February 4, 2009 Share #23 Posted February 4, 2009 Like 3510 posts. I do not believe numbers of posts is significant, we had for instance the same number of posts before I made this one but I don't beleive it is possible to make any conclusions out of that. Internet fora - whatever we discuss, it seems to be a human thing to argue, about nothing in most cases. Nevertheless sad, especially when the topic of this thread appeared joyful in the first place to me.

There might be a difference in culture how we argue and talk to each other, in different countries. I hope you and all others have no hard feelings. Venkman Posted February 4, 2009 Share #25 Posted February 4, 2009 Can we get back to the cam porn now? BTW - the above image is not to my standards. I would have expected at least a battery in the background or frivolous SD cards lounging around...
joppepop Posted February 4, 2009 Share #26 Posted February 4, 2009 No worries, anderswi, I have not been offended at all! I didn't even part in that discusion. It was just a bypassers reflection on the discussion, in fact, also something recurrent on Internet fora and quite irritating when you think about it. Communicating is troublesome, sometimes. :-) Venkman is right! It's time to get back to the camera porn. I personally like the titanium version best, it totally blends with all possible colours you can imagine. On the other hand, it looks rather hard with that grey high-tech machine look, so some colourful accessories would be perfect to add into this picture. That if the current table-cloth is replaced by denim or chinos, that said. :-)

Indeed! I've been on this forum for a number of years now and dip into it most days, but don't see what that's got to do with anything anyway. I think its just a fact that humour, or sarcasm, often doesn't work well over the internet. People read things in a different tone/manner to the author intended and then the mud slinging starts! bill Posted February 4, 2009 Share #28 Posted February 4, 2009 Indeed! I think its just a fact that humour, or sarcasm, often doesn't work well over the internet. People read things in a different tone/manner to the author intended and then the mud slinging starts! Ah, but do you want to be on the receiving end of sandy mud or silty mud...? I agree, and I feel somewhat guilty that I started this. My point was straightforward, and Jeffrey actually managed to reinforce it - cosmetics don't matter. I would no more ask the members of this Forum whether I should buy a black or a silver [insert as applicable] as I would canvass their opinions on what I should have for tea tonight. It's a personal choice and people should be able to make it on their own, hence my frustration. Enough said... back to the camera porn Regards, Bill

miami91 Posted February 4, 2009 Share #30 Posted February 4, 2009 and Jeffrey actually managed to reinforce it - cosmetics don't matter. Well, that's one interpretation of my comment. I certainly do agree with you that cosmetics don't have a hill of beans to do with photographic results. But I don't think that means that cosmetics (or design, more generally) are completely irrelevant to someone's purchase decision, or that someone should be the subject of ridicule for raising it in a forum. What bothers me is the knee-jerk reaction that many people on this forum seem to have to the topic of design (whether that be color, presence/absence of logos, styling, etc), as if by discussing it one is committing a mortal sin and revealing themselves to be photographic philistines. That's what I mean about one having nothing to do with the other. I guess we sort of agree on this! More to the point, I don't understand why anyone would take personal offense at the topic being raised (as you seem to Bill), particularly when the title of the thread makes it so patently obvious what sort of input the OP is looking for. In other words, if the topic strikes you as superficial, why not just pass on by? But all too often, instead of taking a pass, someone must make a snarky comment or trivialize their fellow forum member with a "joke" at their expense. And it turns what I'm sure the OP intended as a light-hearted discussion about his/her options into something a bit edgier (sometimes bordering on nasty), which in my mind, is the epitome of "taking oneself too seriously". echorec Posted February 6, 2009 Share #32 Posted February 6, 2009 Hi Anders, the D-lux looks great with the old VIOOH finder!
jchastn Posted February 6, 2009 Share #33 Posted February 6, 2009 I got a great deal on the Special Edition Titanium D-lux4, and I love it. It was about one hundred dollars more than the black version, but the finish is gorgeous, and it comes with a beautiful leather hard shell case that is exclusive to this edition. The leather case that can be purchased to go with the D-lux is not as nice, and costs about 150 bucks.
anderswi Posted February 6, 2009 Share #34 Posted February 6, 2009 Hi Anders, the D-lux looks great with the old VIOOH finder! Thank you! I use the VIOOH in the longer end of the zoomrange of the DLUX 4. I think it is a nice combo. I recently bought a Leica angle viewfinder which I am going to test. It is nice when you can use equipment on both analog and digital cameras. I am eagerly waiting for Olympus microfourthirds cameras, on which you can use Leica M-lenses with an adapter. delnerdo Posted February 7, 2009 Share #36 Posted February 7, 2009 The special case is a pro for titanium. Also I think it would be harder to scratch the anodized Ti surface than the painted black. But now there's a bigger difference in price ~300USD. I opted for black. Why not get both?
carylwithay Posted February 7, 2009 Share #37 Posted February 7, 2009 I have the Titanium and love it but the case is a pain in the neck. It is always in the way. Now I just take the camera out of it in order to use it. I use the case to transport it. Maybe I am doing something wrong but just opening the case and shooting puts the case in the way of the lens. Any suggestions? Caryl

kalina Posted February 28, 2009 Share #39 Posted February 28, 2009 I sold my Titanium case for $250, so in essence my camera cost me $750. I got to keep my suede sack as a protective bag. Hee hee.
