earleygallery Posted February 4, 2009 Share #21  Posted February 4, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Well, there is comon sense. Any slightly experienced photographer will know this faint line represents a 1/50th to 1/100th stop difference. Since it is a known fact that the eye can't discern a 1/12th of a stop accurately, it is only fair to conclude that no testing at all is needed. I am rather astounded at the rather low knowledge spread around. I was kind of expecting something else in a Leica forum. But hey, that's just me.  Hmmm  Well the OP would appear to be a Leica novice, hence his question. He probably doesn't understand how the Leica meter works and why the slight 'marking' on the white dot is irrelevant.  Testing a new s/h camera but running a roll of film through it is good practice in any event, and most faults if present will show in the negs.  Anyway, we are all indebted for your contribution and greater knowledge spread. NB23 Posted February 4, 2009 Share #22 Â Posted February 4, 2009 Anyway, we are all indebted for your contribution and greater knowledge spread. Â You may try to be sarcastic, but will thank you for the kind and true words above. I feel it was time for someone to step up and stop some nonsense going around. Â The OP Novice can only be thankful I saved him at least 10$ for checking if his exposure will be affected by the faint line. He is not a Novice anymore. NB23 Posted February 4, 2009 Share #24  Posted February 4, 2009 We are not worthy. Actually, I'll add a bit to that. All that owning a Leica proves is that you have enough money to buy a Leica. There's no exam to pass and no certificate to award before a dealer will sell you a camera. So there's a full range of expertise available from NB23 at the top end - obviously, to me at the bottom end - sadly.   Apparently, I am brilliant Holga photographer. So I can help you at the bottom end also.

The one of my MP looked the same and was replaced by Leica under warranty.

I would suggest an entrance exam for LUF but then I would have to go elsewhere.
alun Posted February 5, 2009 Share #30 Â Posted February 5, 2009 The OP is not unnaturally concerned about the MP just purchased. Perhaps emailing the original perfectly good picture illustrating the possible problem with a query to Leica Service might be the simplest answer? The one of my MP looked the same and was replaced by Leica under warranty. Â If it were me, I'd send it in to Leica for a CLA with instructions to "repair or replace metering white spot and/or shutter curtain as needed." You could also call and talk to them about it once they have the camera in hand.
