doubice Posted July 26, 2009 Share #1842 Posted July 26, 2009 Well, I believe that a hint may be in order..... Sarah Palin claimed to be able to see Russia from her window. She can't see this glacier out of her window (nor Russia for that matter - I saw her house... ) but, this glacier is a lot closer to her residence than all the glaciers that were guessed previously...... Good luck, Jan

doubice Posted July 27, 2009 Share #1847 Posted July 27, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Sarah Palin's official residence is (was....) not in Anchorage...... Rob's guess is the closest but, he does not get his cigar yet. Think Huckleberry Finn's best friend........ That should really give it away. Good luck, Jan
psquared Posted July 27, 2009 Share #1848 Posted July 27, 2009 (edited) Must be the Sawyer Glaciers, then. I was thinking of Wasilla, Palin's hometown. Edited July 27, 2009 by psquared

psquared Posted July 27, 2009 Share #1852 Posted July 27, 2009 (edited) You're in the right region of the world, but you need to go a little farther west and a bit higher. Extra points for knowing the other two prominent words on the monument (Others, Country, ..., ...). Edited July 27, 2009 by psquared

psquared Posted July 27, 2009 Share #1855 Posted July 27, 2009 Absolutely right on both counts, Rob. Mt. Baden-Powell, named after Lord Baden-Powell, the founder of the Boy Scout movement. At 9,399 feet, it's one of the highest peaks near Los Angeles. BTW, those are my boys, who are Boy Scouts, who reluctantly came on the hike. Your turn, Rob. luigi bertolotti Posted July 27, 2009 Share #1856 Posted July 27, 2009 Baden Powell !... I knew there was a Peak with his name in USA (2 of my 3 daughters are Scouts, too... and in Europe too there is a Peak named after B-P) but didn't recognize it... I guess we are talking gin on the verandah at dusk, colonialism, policing, contemporary English literature, author. It isnt Wimbledon. Town and country. Shame about the shot I had a winner planned but the other buggy crossed and I gave up on it.
