Yes, missed that... sorry for the delay. I hope landscape is ok, not just towns/cities.

Name the stone structure to win... let me know if hints are required.

Stones kept on top of each others are used as markers and called "Cairn". However this one may be a natural formation. Is there an identifying feature to indicate where it could be?

Yes, this is a natural granite stack. There are no other identifying features in the photograph but there are many granite hillocks around the area.

The Peak District's out then, I guess...

how about Dartmoor?

Jim

Dartmoor is correct :-)

I suppose it's a bit too much to ask for the name of the stack, I thought it was well known.

This stack is called Bowerman's Nose. It's about a mile away from Hound Tor which is believed to have been of some inspiration to Arthur Conan Doyle (Hound of the Baskervilles)

It's bigger than it looks on the photo... here's another with my partner sitting on a rock, so you can see the size of it...

Thanks, Ian

I saw the film of The Hound of the Baskervilles when I was about 8 - had nightmares for about a week after. Dartmoor always puts me in mind of it - I hope your partner survived the trip!

Here's mine: either the foreground or distant location will do

Thanks.OK. Apologies. I'm away from home so please excuse the image quality if its not as good as it might be as I don't have access to the image file and this is pulled from a presentation. Rather than wait or pass though, here is an image with an interesting piece of history attached to it. I'll add in a clue if needed later.
