Michael Geschlecht Posted January 11, 2014 Share #13170 Posted January 11, 2014 Hello Frans, That looks similar to my grandparent's house which is an old farm house built in New Jersey in the first half of the 19th Century. Altho the home in this picture looks more like it might have been built in the Eastern half of Pennsylvania around the middle of the 19th Century. vertekijker Posted January 11, 2014 Share #13171 Posted January 11, 2014 Hello Frans, That looks similar to my grandparent's house which is an old farm house built in New Jersey in the first half of the 19th Century. Altho the home in this picture looks more like it might have been built in the Eastern half of Pennsylvania around the middle of the 19th Century. Best Regards, Michael Well, you're in the general neighborhood, Michael, give or take a few hundred miles - as a European I'm not good at guesstimating distances on the American east coast. But you're in that corner of the world. And the 19th century is also correct. Well done. Can you narrow it down further? Remember that a person important in the history of your country lived here. ------------- Frans
thighslapper Posted January 12, 2014 Share #13172 Posted January 12, 2014 Cedar Hill, Anacostia, once home to famed abolistionist Frederick Douglass. Too much info, Frans
vertekijker Posted January 12, 2014 Share #13173 Posted January 12, 2014 Wow!!! I thought you had too little to go on! Very impressive! How did you do it? You visited the place yourself, or were you up all night doing Google images of 19th century houses on the east coast? Next to the house, under the hill, is an interesting museum about the life of Frederick Douglass. A most fascinating man, his autobiography gives a shocking picture of what he had to endure as a slave. He was a great orator and writer for the abolitionist movement. He never knew the year of his birth, passed away in 1895. Douglass was mostly self-taught - spoke French and German, played Bach on the violin. Your turn, Thighslapper! ----------- Cheers
