otto.f Posted April 28, 2013 Share #11962 Posted April 28, 2013 Is this part of the terracotta army made for Qin Shi Huangdi, the first emperor of China, located between the mountain Li and the city of Xi'an, China?

No! Those are only small size terra-cotta.
A miller Posted April 28, 2013 Share #11964 Posted April 28, 2013 This is taking me back a while, but could this be a picture of the mausoleum (a "doll house" of sorts) of Liu Qi, Emperor of China from 156 to 141 BC?

Yes, this is Hanyangling mausoleum (Liu Qi tumb), close to the Xi'an airport. A very nice museum to visit (much nicer than the quite ordinary hall where one can admire the totally incredible Qin army, IMO). A miller Posted April 28, 2013 Share #11966 Posted April 28, 2013 Here is my pic. I shaded out a couple of words that would be dead give-aways. Where are we? Welcome, dear visitor! A miller Posted April 29, 2013 Share #11970 Posted April 29, 2013 Hi Tony - yes, we are in the south.
stuny Posted April 29, 2013 Share #11971 Posted April 29, 2013 Tony - Yes it's very similar. They also serve batter dipped deep fried butter and batter dipped deep fried Twinkies at places like this.
vertekijker Posted April 29, 2013 Share #11972 Posted April 29, 2013 'Batter dipped deep fried butter'? Have you ever tried this, Stuart? I never even heard of it, although I lived for 15 years in the States. We learn something new every day... And what could this taste like, except like butter? Or rather, like 'crunchy butter'? Is this maybe more a macho thing than a matter of taste, defying the medical world? --------------- Frans
stuny Posted April 30, 2013 Share #11973 Posted April 30, 2013 Frans - I've not tried any of those items, not because of unwillingness to try foods new to me, but because of how astonishly unhealthy they are. They all seem to sell well. If I recall, they freeze butter, batter dip it and then deep fry it. I would guess this combination allows you to stain all your clothing as you get ready for a trip to an ER.
stuny Posted April 30, 2013 Share #11974 Posted April 30, 2013 Sorry, Adam - Back to the game. The $6 water suggests a street fair in Manhattan, though I've not seen tents that color here.
Pintpot Posted April 30, 2013 Share #11975 Posted April 30, 2013 Thanks for all the info. on the fried heart attack grub! So.... In the south, I see legs on the banner could be frogs, therefore French .... so how about Louisiana? Regards
A miller Posted April 30, 2013 Share #11976 Posted April 30, 2013 Hi Tony - very clever and rational, but Louisiana is not the state that is famous for holding large gatherings with most whacky and out of control fried foods. Time for a hint, this annual gathering also features other palatial fried foods such as fried bubble gum and fried beer.
gdb Posted May 1, 2013 Share #11977 Posted May 1, 2013 "I see legs on the banner could be frogs, therefore French ...." Thanks for your courteous opinion about the French... But we are not very fond of the kind of food advertised on your picture... Sorry. Gérard
A miller Posted May 1, 2013 Share #11978 Posted May 1, 2013 Hi Gerard - i think all Tony is doing is connecting the dots between frogs legs, which as you know is a French-derived delicasy, with Louisiana, which is widely known for its French influence. Nothing offense in this, to me.....

OK then - had to google this -Texas state fair? Regards Tony
A miller Posted May 1, 2013 Share #11980 Posted May 1, 2013 BINGO!! Exactly correct! For the record, i didn't eat anything on the menu, although people go bananas over it. Over to you, Tony
