vertekijker Posted April 15, 2013 Share #11882 Posted April 15, 2013 Not Austria, Michael, but getting warmer. ------------- Frans
otto.f Posted April 15, 2013 Share #11883 Posted April 15, 2013 Is it a sculpture from Botero?
vertekijker Posted April 15, 2013 Share #11884 Posted April 15, 2013 Hi Otto. Looks like it, doesn't it? But it is not from Botero. Hint: there are far less flattering depictions of the person who this is a sculpture of - she was an important figure in the world of art, in the 20th century. ----------- Frans
otto.f Posted April 15, 2013 Share #11885 Posted April 15, 2013 Too easy... Hmf. The building in the back as well as the bank seems Dutch but that is as far from Sweden as from Austria. Is it Belgium?

otto.f Posted April 16, 2013 Share #11888 Posted April 16, 2013 Berlin?
vertekijker Posted April 16, 2013 Share #11889 Posted April 16, 2013 The country is right, Otto, not the city though. Now that we know the country, I can add another hint. An art historian wrote this about the woman depicted here: "Her portrait was painted more often than that of any other woman in Germany." ------------ Frans
otto.f Posted April 16, 2013 Share #11890 Posted April 16, 2013 Jesus! And you dare say that this is einfach... Mutter Ey, Düsseldorf, statue by Hannelore Köhler Never heard of, thanks!
vertekijker Posted April 16, 2013 Share #11891 Posted April 16, 2013 Congratulations Otto! Well done! Johanna Ey ('Mutter Ey') was a simple woman, started a bakery near the art academy of Dusseldorf and supported poor artists, hung their paintings on the walls, allowed them to eat in exchange for drawings, paintings. She helped starving students like Max Ernst, Otto Dix and others. She then opened an art gallery filled with their paintings - the kind of art that the nazis called 'Entartete Kunst' ('degenerate art'). She got some of them out of jail, supported them in many ways. Her role in the history of modern German art was very important. There are a few books written about her. Would make a good story for a movie I think. Well my friend, I'm afraid it is back to you! Cheers. --------- Frans
