doubice Posted November 13, 2009 Share #2661 Posted November 13, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) And what was the clue? The clue was the volcanic shoreline, as 'geaibleu' correctly identified - even the main airport on the Big Island (Hawaii) is built over a lava flow. There is lava everywhere, even some of the beaches have black sand.... Cheers, Jan

doubice Posted November 14, 2009 Share #2663 Posted November 14, 2009 Hey Jan, out of the game, I see you are from Vancouver... I remember in your area there is a ski resort named GARIBALDI : I like the name...haven't you some pic of it ? Hello Luigi, The Garibaldi area is not a ski resort per se, more like a hiking area in the summer and a cross country skiing area in the winter. Absolutely wonderful scenery, like most of the Coastal Mountains here in BC. I used to hike and cross country ski there many years ago, in what I refer to as my pre-digital days. A little bit of history from their site, explaining why the 'Garibaldi' name: ...."In 1860, while carrying out a survey of Howe Sound on board the Royal Navy survey ship H.M.S. Plumper, Captain George Henry was impressed by a towering mountain dominating the view to the northeast. Captain Richards chose to name the 2,678 metre mountain Mount Garibaldi, after the great 19th century Italian patriot and soldier, Giuseppe Garibaldi, a guerrilla general whose exploits and valour he held in high esteem"..... Here is a Wikipedia blurb about the area, with some interesting links: Garibaldi, British Columbia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia and the Garibaldi Park website: Garibaldi Park BC - Whistler, Vancouver, Squamish - GaribaldiPark.com Best, Jan
luigi bertolotti Posted November 14, 2009 Share #2664 Posted November 14, 2009 Thanks Jan... maybe my memory failed... I seem to remember that in he '70s in Garibaldi a World Cup Downhill race was held..

GMB Posted November 17, 2009 Share #2671 Posted November 17, 2009 This is a pretty wild guess and I may be completely off the mark -- but I still try. The beach is located in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and they shot the Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.

GMB Posted November 17, 2009 Share #2673 Posted November 17, 2009 Wow! The rusty thing in the middle looked somewhat familar from the film but I honestly thought it would be off the mark, in particular as the sky in the shot did not look like you imagine a carabean sky. I'll post the new shot this evening. Georg
Anke Posted November 17, 2009 Share #2674 Posted November 17, 2009 Wow! in particular as the sky in the shot did not look like you imagine a carabean sky. Georg Unfortunately it was very cloudy, but nevertheless we walked on the same sand than Johnny Depp did.
