Congratulations, Lars - the Humboldt River it is! All of it is in Nevada. This view is close to Carlin, NV (perhaps detectable in the background).

One of the longest rivers in the US that does not reach the sea, being in the endorheic Great Basin. After about 350 miles it ends in the Humboldt Sink.

A major route westward in the 1800's, the California Trail, used this valley. And the two railway tracks in the picture are also part of the first transcontinental connection. They were built by Western Pacific and Southern Pacific, resp. Now both companies are consolidated into Union Pacific. And the Amtrak "California Zephyr" uses them on its way between Chicago and San Francisco via Denver, Salt Lake City, and Reno...

But the landscape speaks for itself...

Thanks, everyone, for your interest. And over to you, Lars!

Hi Stefan, thank you.  When I first saw your shot, I recognized the landscape. Last summer, we spent traveling CA, UT and Nevada and it looked a lot like the landscape closer to Salt Lake. But subsequently I recalled being asked to get involved in the vanadium mines near Carlin.

Will post a new one later today or tomorrow.

Malang it is. It is Jodipan Rainbow Village, which was part of one of Indonesia’s largest slums.  Then the military took the initiative to paint and decorate the village.
we visited Malang in 2019, as my late mother was born and raised in Malang and I was curious.

My lack of Latin is no help with the inscription, reference to Sutherland & Henrietta, there's a dome with a statue looking like the Old Bailey  - so I'll take a punt
