Thanks, Arto.

Alright, here's my submission. I have a feeling this may go pretty quick, relatively speaking.

Looking for the name of the town.

Greetings, Michael.

Thanks for the kind words.

You're definitely on the right track (sorry for the pun!) looking at brick work on the building. This turn of the century building is right in the heart of the Rocky Mountains.

The building itself is historic and one of the big reasons this town flourished. The other couple of reasons are visible in this picture to someone who knows this location, but are obscured by the low vantage point.  Both of those 2 other reasons involve water. Today the town is most famous for the other obvious thing in the picture. :)

Best regards,

Phil

Anyone else?

Does this require more hints? Really thought there'd be enough here to hone in on this.

There arent too many ski towns that I'm aware of that have a mountain that look quite like this (below treeline) in the Rockies, are built right in a town which was built right along the railroad, is famous for its water, and now even more known and associated with skiing and the skiers this town produces.

Ha. Will throw a few more hints at it then in the text below;

We're not near the Coors brewery in Golden, CO. However, we arent all that far from it either.

And if I remember my watersheds correctly, I believe the river in question flows WEST, while the Coors Brewery is on the EAST side of the Continental Divide.

Also, it isnt the river OR even the river water that this town is named for...

Mike

That is an excellent guess, and on so many levels you are on the right track, but that is the wrong town.

Glenwood doesnt have a ski resort either.

Phil

But it's a beautiful town. :)

How about Breckenridge?

Yes, I'm guessing. :)

I do love Glenwood, though I admit, I'm usually just passing through to go somewhere further west or south.

You were much closer with your Glenwood SPRINGS guess in the previous post :)

Breck has the resort, but wasnt really settled/named due to a notable water feature, no train or historic train building, and also while somewhat known for skiing, isnt as notable as this town is for its contribution to skiing. Especially in the Olympics.

Ha

We're running out of towns called Springs in Colorado. Keep going, you'll get it eventually.

I should note however, this town does have a spring that is about 300 yards away from where I took this picture called Sulphur Springs.

anyone else?

to summarize where we are on what has been guessed correctly

  1. We are in Colorado in a town that ends with the word "Springs"
  2. The town was settled and named for the spring(s)
  3. Settled on a major river and experienced growth as a town thanks to the rail road building visible in the picture
  4. Has produced numerous Olympic athletes for all the skiing sports. The town also has a nickname which involves skiing.
  5. Today is probably most famous for the big ski resort visible in the picture which is also a bit unusual for Colorado since it is totally below tree line.

Hoping to hand this over to someone before Monday since I leave on a business trip where I wont have much access to reply to other guesses.
