"Do you know the world ?" -- Competition --

Recommended Posts

Orient/Jan - You are both right! We are in fact in Germany on a cold a snowy morning. 8:40am sounds about right (I wouldn't dare question the accuracy of a German-made street clock!), as I took this picture from my hotel room.

Do we need to go further and pinpoint a city, or are we good?

Stuart - Perhaps you could advise?

This is good enough for me. Sorry but this kind of images can be made in any German suburb-city, that are of no relevance for 'knowing the world' in any significant manner. This reminds me of the title of a famous game:

Trivial Pursuit. Just like Lars' picture of a highroad along the Cote d'Azur that was posted recently btw. Unless of course it is some place near Solms or Wetzlar of course :);)

Fair enough. Although it conceivably could be anywhere in Germany, anyone who has driven through the main streets of Frankfurt should pretty well recognize this. It was taken outside of my room at the Hessischer Hof hotel, which btw is quite charming, indeed. :)

Having been "volunteered" by LeicaBraz, how about this one? The men look bored because they have been holding the globes for nearly a century.

The Empire State building was completed in about 1931. remarkably it only took 14 months to build and begin moving people in. These days it seems to take several years to repair a short road. The Empire State Building is also purely classic art deco.

Quite correct Vertekijker! The station frontage is shown in the attached photo. I can see why an earlier competitor thought "USA" as Eilel Saarinen, the architect, went on to design several important buildings there.

Congratulations and over to you!

In this house one of the most important political figures in 20th century European history was born. Where are we? Who was he?

Thank you! I was in Lille once but not there. It was the color in which the house in the back was painted that brought me to France, plus what I said earlier. Your hint did the rest and checking at Google for De Gaulles place of birth gave the confirmation. I will go upstairs after the news and post a difficult one
