The reason I said "the lake you can see" is that there is another lake to the left and higher up, called Mica Lake, which was still frozen over and covered in snow even at the end of August, when I was there. Cochella Vally is correct, the mountains in the background are actually Indio Mountains and in the distance Santa Rosa Mountains. San Jachinto Mtns. are a bit more to the W.
