Olsen Posted March 8, 2011 Share #7105 Posted March 8, 2011 The old Dutch church in Malacca, Malaysia. The stone slabs are old grave stones - many with Norwegian names. Explain that!
martinop Posted March 8, 2011 Share #7106 Posted March 8, 2011 Olsen, Close enough. Saint Paul's is the name of this Church originally built by the Portuguese in the 1500s. Then turned into a burial ground by the Dutch for their noble dead. Over to you.

dcoombs Posted March 8, 2011 Share #7108 Posted March 8, 2011 Surprisingly informal attire for such a posh setting. Can't place it, though. Doug
geaibleu Posted March 8, 2011 Share #7109 Posted March 8, 2011 With a Norwegian flag on the table (first row right) it could be in Brazil where the flag mania seems quite common. With a restaurant that may double as a theatre, this could suggest Manaus.
Michael Geschlecht Posted March 9, 2011 Share #7110 Posted March 9, 2011 Hello Olsen, Or is it possible we are on a ship? Best Regards, Michael
Olsen Posted March 9, 2011 Share #7111 Posted March 9, 2011 We are on a ship. But not a cruise ship. The Norwegian flag and the informal attire typical of Scandinavians are good observations.
euston Posted March 9, 2011 Share #7112 Posted March 9, 2011 Is it a ferry of the Color Line? I think it is the Color Fantasy that plies between Kiel and Oslo. It’s a long enough voyage to almost count as a cruise.

It’s a long enough voyage to almost count as a cruise. That is correct! - I can't remember if it was 'Fantasy' or 'Magic'. Even the carpets look the same. On to you! euston Posted March 9, 2011 Share #7114 Posted March 9, 2011 Thanks, Olsen. Here’s a zoom shot from November 2006 when my V-Lux 1 was only a few weeks old. Still a favourite camera, by the way, and still going strong. Which building does this clock adorn and where is it? The birds aren't much of a clue but the fishy weathervane may be. Michael Geschlecht Posted March 9, 2011 Share #7115 Posted March 9, 2011 (edited) Hello euston, What appears to be a salmon on the weather vane along w/ the moss & the metal covered tower leads me to assume this is either Scotland, Norway or somewhere on the journey between them. Best Regards, Michael As an after thought: Is the 1810 a time period? The styles of the clock numerals & hands appear to be not as old as that time period. euston Posted March 9, 2011 Share #7116 Posted March 9, 2011 You’re geographically off track, Michael, and not quite right about the fish. 1810 is the date when this building was built.
Michael Geschlecht Posted March 9, 2011 Share #7117 Posted March 9, 2011 Hello again euston, Thank you for the correction. What was I thinking? It is a cod & one of the centers of the cod trade for many years, including 1810, was La Rochelle where roofs such as this are quite usual. Oh well. Not every day is someone's best. Certainly not mine. Best Regards, Michael
euston Posted March 9, 2011 Share #7118 Posted March 9, 2011 It isn’t a cod, Michael, but you’re right in thinking that the identity of the fish is a good pointer to the place.
Michael Geschlecht Posted March 10, 2011 Share #7119 Posted March 10, 2011 Hello euston, Wind coming out of the south might mean from North Africa making this the South of Europe on the Mediterranean's or one of its appendages's Coast?
