Andreas,

You are getting closer! Ausangate is south of Cuzco, my mountain is north of that city. Ausangate is just a few meters higher that 'my' mountain. I did the Ausangate trek as well but, it was not on the trail where the photo of 'my' mountain was taken.

Now - there are again a few hints above, with one rather big one.....

Best,

Jan

Yes, 'my' mountain indeed starts with an 'S' and depending on who is doing the counting is about the twelfth highest peak in Peru.

You obviously know the answer - who is going to jump in for the kill?

Jan

"twelfth highest" is what Wikipedia says!;)

Due to the lack of pictures i can`t fire off the finishing shot!:o:D

That is very well possible - some mountains however, count as two entries, because they may have two separate peaks - that is where the discrepancy may come in.

I know the feeling exactly! I spent over an hour mastering my scanning skills on my Epson scanner to be able to post the last photo. I am running out of images from the 'digital era' and have to rummage among the thousands of slides I have amassed over the years.......

Unfortunately, nobody came close with their guesses so, at this moment you are the most eligible to win the gold. All I need is that one word that starts with an 'S' - an YOU know it! I am quite sure that you will have something suitable to post!

Best,

Jan

Michael,

Thanks for bringing it back to life. Unfortunately, Siula Grande is not correct - it is too far north. I am surprised that nobody has taken notice of the many hints and Etibeti's correct but veiled answer.

I will recapitulate all my previous hints:

From my "go south and go north" responses, we should have the approximate location and from the "higher and lower" hints, we should have the approximate height.

  • ..."Lower than 7,500m though it did not feel like it when we marched through the pass below it, at about 5,000m"...
  • ...."no to Aconcagua. Go north"......
  • ...."this mountain is higher than the Cotapaxi. Go south".....
  • ...."Illimani is just a little bit higher than 'My' mountain. Go north".....
  • You are getting closer! Ausangate is south of Cuzco, my mountain is just north of that city. Ausangate is a few meters higher than 'my' mountain. I did the Ausangate trek as well but, it was not on the trail where the photo of 'my' mountain was taken.

  • Now - there are again a few hints above, with one rather big one.....
  • Another hint - along the way to a rather famous place......

Good luck,

Thanks Etibeti for coming through and to Stuart for holding back.

Yes, Nevado Salkantay (the Savage Mountain in Quechua) it is. It stands above one of the access routes to the Inca Trail, which leads to Machu Picchu. One of my most memorable holidays - I spent 8 weeks treking through the mountains and plateaus of Peru; some years ago......

Next riddle coming up - Etibeti, your turn.

Best,

Jan
