"Do you know the world ?" -- Competition --

I finally got one! Thanks, Gary. I remember that scene from a couple of years ago we took the inland cruise from Vancouver to Anchorage and stopped at most of the ports along the way. I will try to find a shot worthy of this fun thread.

Jan,

Amazingly you did not find the answer. In order to help I have finally Uploaded the pic.

GaryO

Gary,

I should have waited for your upload instead of 'guessing' what may come next. I took the same cruise two years ago and probably have a photo of the same 'Madam' on Creek Street that you may have.....

Don,

Is this Lago Maggiore? Or Lugano? Or - Lago di Garda?

Anyway - that part of the world is where I always put on weight. Along with France.

Best,

Jan

Well, Jan, it sounds like you're in the right area but you haven't hit it yet. :)

Added: I'm sorry, but it's almost 1:30AM here and I will have to stop and continue in the morning. Cheers, Don.

Well done, Jan! However, I won't let you off that easy, you're not there yet. What town is it? Here is a shot from the other direction. Our hotel is the white one, center-upper-right, from which I shot the first picture. (All shots taken with Leica IIIg, 35 Cron Asph, Kodak Portra 160)

Yes!

My wife, Joanie, and I met almost 39 years ago on Como St. on an island off Tampa, later we stayed at the Paris casino across the strip from the Bellagio casino in Las Vegas; now on this 2009 European vacation we just happened to see the play "The 39 Steps" at the Criterion Theatre in Piccadilly Square--

--and here it all came together--where she had us booked at the Bellagio Hotel in Bellagio, Italy, on Lake Como, with its (long) 39 steps down to the street along the lake. See how far that was by looking at Picture#2 above. Of course, we'll have to spring for the Bellagio next time we're in Vegas. Wow.

Fantastic. Joanie planned the whole trip on the internet, through six countries from London to Zurich, including all lodging and travel by train. (And Doc Henry--we'll always have Paris!) Great memories--and another one was I wasn't too sure how--or if--my film pictures (taken with new/old camera and lens recently purchased on eBay) would turn out when I got back, but I shot seven rolls and am happy with results. Thanks all. :)

Congratulations, Noriko! I pass the baton to you.

A quick note to all. When I posted my (first) picture this round I asked: "Where are we?" wanting the correct answer to be 'Bellagio, Lake Como, Italy.' I should have been more specific and instead ask: "What town and place is this?" Jan got the place--Lago di Como--and I then asked for the town. While I was waiting for him to get the town Noriko got the town--Bellagio--so I gave it to her.

Reflecting back on this I think I owe an apology to Jan for my being so vague, because I'm sure he thought he got the "where are we" with his Lago di Como. I communicated with him privately on this and he graciously said it was OK but I hereby apologize to him--and all--publically on this matter.

What does everybody think--should he get credit, half credit, or should we let it go?

Mea culpa Don

Don,

Really - no apology is necessary. I believe that Noriko deserves the 'gold medal' and am certain that her photos will be from more interesting and mysterious places than mine may be.

Noriko - please go ahead.

All the best,

Jan

Since nothing is specified, at least the name of a town is expected ;-)
