esquire53 Posted October 2, 2010 Share #5602 Posted October 2, 2010 hmmmm, not that I'm aware of this and the vita of Roland Garros does not mention the place.... He was from St. Denis and we are looking at a place inside one of the (easy accessible) circuses ... here's a picture of the village and again, it's approx 20km away form the Piton and since it can only go to the north ... a.j.z Posted October 3, 2010 Share #5609 Posted October 3, 2010 Colorado River? (does the building have to do with the Hoover Dam?)
Michael Geschlecht Posted October 3, 2010 Share #5610 Posted October 3, 2010 Hello Gary, The South Atlantic ? Best Regards, Michael
gearoido Posted October 3, 2010 Share #5611 Posted October 3, 2010 Thank you both Michael and Andreas. Unfortunately it is neither on the Colorado River or the South Atlantic. The building is very interesting. The two squat Rotunda that might appear to have some military function are simply skylights to a large cavern underneath the building in which guest's cars are parked. The two approaches to the building from which the Rotunda emerge are driveways where the guest drives his car entering the building and driving inside where the guest exits the car and an attendant drives the car out the other side and parks the car underneath. The very large ground floor is simply a portico. GaryO
vertekijker Posted October 3, 2010 Share #5612 Posted October 3, 2010 It doesn't exactly look like a cozy place... Those chimneys look quite unusual. ----------------- Frans
gearoido Posted October 3, 2010 Share #5613 Posted October 3, 2010 Frans, It is in a very barren location. All the greenery is deceiving. GaryO
LuxBob Posted October 4, 2010 Share #5614 Posted October 4, 2010 My first thought was dam and the nearby water and barren location support that in my mind. Why woudl you build a relatively ornate building in a barren location otherwise? Research Center? But visitors dribing tehir cars in and having tehm driven away woudl seem to relate to something connected with entertainment. Coudl it be an abandoned Governemnt building on a reservation and now used as a base for gambling?
vertekijker Posted October 4, 2010 Share #5615 Posted October 4, 2010 Seems like we are looking at the back of the building, and that the front overlooks some place of natural beauty? --------------- Frans
LuxBob Posted October 4, 2010 Share #5616 Posted October 4, 2010 (edited) Could this be Africa? On the other side of the valley is a notice board and on the terrace someone with a blue shirt. Just to the left is a square sandpit to the right of whch could it be a bit of fairway? So it could be the private hideaway of a golf fanatic dictator who likes to build a club house that fits with his second hobby as a set for remakes of old B&W horror movies. No? vertekijker Posted October 4, 2010 Share #5617 Posted October 4, 2010 I love how we are speculating here about this place. It starts to look more and more sinister... I don't know about Africa, the foliage in the foreground looks a bit too northern methinks. ------------- Frans
gearoido Posted October 4, 2010 Share #5618 Posted October 4, 2010 Hello All, We are looking at the back of the building (Which was dedicated by Queen Marie of Romania) with the front overlooking a powerful natural wonder. GaryO
vertekijker Posted October 4, 2010 Share #5619 Posted October 4, 2010 Then it must be the Maryhill Museum of Art, overlooking the Columbia River Gorge, located east of Portland, Oregon. -------------- Frans
gearoido Posted October 4, 2010 Share #5620 Posted October 4, 2010 Very good Frans. An amazing place with a fine collection of Rodin, and a 100 miles from anywhere. Your turn GaryO
