andybarton Posted June 25, 2010 Share #4606 Posted June 25, 2010 Yes, but it was placed by someone who hijacked 231 pages and defeated the whole point of 4600 posts on the thread. That's why I have reset it back to where it should be

Guest suilvenman Posted June 26, 2010 Share #4611 Posted June 26, 2010 Can I then assume that my correct answer will no longer result in the prize of a free S2 system with one lens? GaryO A 100 per cent assumption, Gary, IMHO. Sorry, what can I say? Unlike FIFA, Wimbledon, Tour de France, etc., this thread really is for genuine amateurs. Here's the next one from Dirk. Dirk Van der Herten Posted June 26, 2010 Share #4615 Posted June 26, 2010 Ken, thanks much for posting the image! Africa and Middle East is both correct, we are in Egypt indeed.
vertekijker Posted June 26, 2010 Share #4616 Posted June 26, 2010 Certainly doesn't look like Japan, eh Dirk? Now how could one figure out where this picture was taken... Looks like a poorer part of Egypt, doesn't it? Somewhere in the south of the country maybe? --------------- Frans
Dirk Van der Herten Posted June 26, 2010 Share #4617 Posted June 26, 2010 You've narrowed the field considerably, Frans, the south of Egypt indeed. A clue: north of the place we're looking for are the ruins of an ancient harbour town that was named after the mother of Ptolemaic pharao. In this harbour town archeologists found remains of spices, indicating maritime trade contacts with India during the Ptolemaic and Roman periods. Dirk Van der Herten Posted June 26, 2010 Share #4619 Posted June 26, 2010 Qusayr means "small fortress" in Arabic, so this cannot be the name of the place to the north of our location. One has to look for a Ptolemaic (Greek) female name first, then go about 90 km. south.
