esquire53 Posted January 10, 2010 Share #3247 Posted January 10, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) yes. There are a lot more serious statues, but this was was funny and one can wonder, if it was sake or water in the bottle. Maybe Yebisu, to me the best beer in the world!! vertekijker Posted January 10, 2010 Share #3249 Posted January 10, 2010 In all honesty, 'Google Images' has so far not been terribly helpful! I Googled for sculptures in a park, holy statues, etc. Nothing that looks remotely like anything on this picture. I'm trying to approach it from another angle, namely the landscape. Looks awfully dry in that place, not what I think of as typically Japanese. Would it be in a mountainous part, in the south? ------------------ Frans

esquire53 Posted January 12, 2010 Share #3255 Posted January 12, 2010 No. It is a park in the souht of the island and it is somewhat of mountains and highlands, as Frans pointed out with the vegetation. It plays an important role in Japanese mythology. They are said to be the site where the god Ninigi no Mikoto, grandson of the sun goddess Amaterasu, was sent to rule over the earth and establish the lineage of Japanese Emperors. But this is Shitu. The little statue is Buddism, but as I said, there a many alongside one of the trails. Very good hiking, if you like mountains, which I don't too much. I would have tought that a few Japanese Leica owner were following our little quiz
