Advertisement Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 Hi pemayeux, Take a look here Daughters. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
kld Posted October 20, 2006 Share #2 Posted October 20, 2006 Beautiful and perfect. Composition, light, bokeh, quality all top-notch. And the girls are really nice. Your daughters? -- Klaus
pemayeux Posted October 20, 2006 Author Share #3 Posted October 20, 2006 Thank you very much Klaus! Yes they are my daughters, Madeline 12, and Nicole 10. They've grown up with a Leica in their faces, but being girls, they like the attention.
ddp Posted October 20, 2006 Share #4 Posted October 20, 2006 I like this...has a classic look to it. Nice image, and the film / lens combo is great here. Timeless image if you ask me.
martinop Posted October 20, 2006 Share #5 Posted October 20, 2006 I like their poses, expressions and smiles + the added impact of the colors and shallow DOF/bokeh.
Dirk Van der Herten Posted October 20, 2006 Share #6 Posted October 20, 2006 Agree with the above comments. You made a truly wonderful portrait of your daughters.
andybarton Posted October 20, 2006 Share #7 Posted October 20, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Sorry, but for me, this is spoiled by the fact that the one on the right isn't in focus.
jtank Posted October 21, 2006 Share #8 Posted October 21, 2006 Very nice, however the hand on the right lower corner of the image looks horribly discoloured (on my monitor, at least). Had you noticed this?
lambroving Posted October 21, 2006 Share #9 Posted October 21, 2006 Lovely DOF, light and colors. Thanks for sharing.
azzo Posted October 21, 2006 Share #10 Posted October 21, 2006 Hi Paul, try cropping into a vertical format leaving all the necklace of the younger one in showing and slightly more than her hand of the same girl on her sister's shoulder without the olderone's arm showing. A tight crop but nice picture of your lovely daughter's, and see if it works for you this way. Best Azzo
vic vic Posted October 21, 2006 Share #11 Posted October 21, 2006 very nice picture but since it kodachrome as u say.. u simply loose the beuty of this film with so much digitalization
fotografr Posted October 21, 2006 Share #12 Posted October 21, 2006 Sorry, but for me, this is spoiled by the fact that the one on the right isn't in focus. Andy--You have GOT to be kidding! This is an absolutely beautiful portrait. I know it's just a personal and subjective opinion, but I don't see how the very slight softness caused by a shallow DOF could possibly be a detractor from such a nice photograph. Lovely photograph in my opinion. Cheers
andybarton Posted October 21, 2006 Share #13 Posted October 21, 2006 Andy--You have GOT to be kidding! This is an absolutely beautiful portrait. I know it's just a personal and subjective opinion, but I don't see how the very slight softness caused by a shallow DOF could possible be a detractor from such a nice photograph. Lovely photograph in my opinion. Cheers Why would I be kidding? One girl is clearly out of focus. I didn't say it wasn't a beautiful portrait. I just think that another stop would have made the difference between a photograph with one daughter out of focus, and a photograph where both siblings were in focus. Call me old fashioned if you like, but I like portraits with the eyes in focus. Seems only fair to both girls and a perfectly reasonable comment. fotografr Posted October 21, 2006 Share #14 Posted October 21, 2006 I didn't say it wasn't a beautiful portrait. Perhaps you need to re-read your original comment. I believe the word "spoiled" was in there somewhere. Anyway, you're entitled to your opinion so I'll leave it at that.
wide.angle Posted October 21, 2006 Share #15 Posted October 21, 2006 I agree that the eyes of the girl on the right is very slightly out of the focal range, but not enough that it feels blurred, just a bit soft -- the image is lovely.
abrewer Posted October 22, 2006 Share #16 Posted October 22, 2006 Great shot Paul. Technical perfection isn't always the answer. Sometimes charm carries the day. Thanks for sharing. Allan
pemayeux Posted October 23, 2006 Author Share #17 Posted October 23, 2006 Thank you everyone for taking time to comment. I really appreciate the critique. Azzo, below is a crop as you suggested, I like the suggestion. Andy, I am also in agreement with your comment on focus. With the rivalry that sometimes goes on with these two, both faces should be equally in focus. I shot at 1.4 trying to get the background, which was ugly, to go away, looking back f2 probably would have been the better choice. Vic, yes K-64 is beautiful, I had forgotten how it feels to view a color slide on a projector screen. Even though it is digitalized, I feel it still retains some of its character. Compared to some digital pictures I see - I like it better, it's not as antiseptic. My desire to shoot Kodachrome 64 comes from a recent visit to my father's house. I came across a large box filled with color slides shot when I was a kid in the 1960s with a Leicaflex and 50mm 'cron. There was a old Kodak projector in the box so I set everything up and we looked at long forgotten family memories. The color was amazing. I decided I wanted to leave some of the same behind for my girls when they are grown. Hopefully they too will find the memories warm. The picture at the bottom is the 'old man' with the Leicaflex (though the picture, a crappy one, was taken with a D2). Welcome, dear visitor! ddp Posted October 23, 2006 Share #19 Posted October 23, 2006 Paul, The crop actually draws more attention to the out of focus area. I still prefer the original, just love the background characteristics.
