Advertisement Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Hi SJP, Take a look here The gathering storm. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
mhanke Posted January 22, 2009 Share #2 Posted January 22, 2009 Great light, but somewhat frightening ... Regards, Marcus
Marquinius Posted January 22, 2009 Share #3 Posted January 22, 2009 Stephen, Powerful photo. The storm is really theratening. Must have been a somewhat - how shall I put it - contemplative moment Marco
stuny Posted January 22, 2009 Share #4 Posted January 22, 2009 Stephen - Very effective in its simplicity (almost minimalism), beautiful and foreboding. It can benefit from a slight (<1 degree) rotation to the right to level the horizon.
SJP Posted January 22, 2009 Author Share #5 Posted January 22, 2009 Thanks! I really appreciate the comments. To put the horizon problem into perspective see one shot & 30 seconds earlier:
roguewave Posted January 22, 2009 Share #6 Posted January 22, 2009 Stephen, as fellow sailor, I heed the call to sail for dark skies. The sea is unusually flat given the heel and appearance of strong pressure. I'd have loved to be on the rail or behind the wheel. Both are fun. You might consider trying a B&W version as well. I think they would both be outstanding, as are these.
Marquinius Posted January 22, 2009 Share #7 Posted January 22, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Now that we're talking: I won't mind handling the main sail. So we almost have a crew. #2 is outstanding in its action. Marco

allamande Posted January 23, 2009 Share #11 Posted January 23, 2009 Both #1 and #2 are outstanding shots, for different reasons. Number 1, as everyone already have said, is very contemplative with its spare beauty, #2 pulls us into the middle of the action with force (the two images are, in a sense, opposite ends of the spectrum). SJP Posted January 23, 2009 Author Share #12 Posted January 23, 2009 Message from my wife, who was trimming the mainsail: in real life it was much more intense than the pictures suggest. Stuart, thanks for the treatment!
