It's not a photography magazine but I do think that the weekend magazine that comes with the Financial Times in the UK contains some wonderful reportage photographs - this weekend's edition has some extraordinary shots of Cuba by Moises Saman.

They're online here FT.com / Weekend / Reportage - Cuba?s revolution 50 years on

Aperture seems fairly ok. I'm a bit afraid of the digital Nikons in the covers of American Photos...

Don't confuse American Photo with its sister publication Poplular Photo. Yes, there is a token amount of equipment in there but the major emphasis is on photographers and their work. Many features are on up and coming photographers rather than the same old masters you see everywhere. Give it a chance. Subscription is cheap (in the US anyway).

While I like Lenswork and B&W magazines, I have found that the Picture Forum in this

site to have many excellent and diverse pictures. I spend too much time looking at the

various catagories and enjoy the comments made about the pictures. Also how can you

beat the cost?

I checked links that you gave but,...still... Is there any serious high quality paper magazine for film photography in Europe in english? I would like to spoil some coffee on it in the rainy mornings. Said with other words: what are you guys reading?

Photoicon - but you can only buy single issues now and they didnt renew my subscription.

PHOTOICON

Really? Are they not making new issues anymore? I ordered their 2007 collection and I really liked it! Sad if they've had to quit. Maybe I'll order the remaining ones too...

I also tried a sample issue of Lenswork + Lenswork extended. Wow, what a package! There are two problems, though (in addition to the magazine being only b&w):

- the magazine is quite small, so the wow-effect of the pictures diminishes, even though the layout is very neat

- the DVD is a bit risky if one wants to watch them after five years or so. There's no quarantee that the file formats or even the DVD format will be easily (if at all) readable by future computers. And I suspect I'm gonna physically outlive the DVD anyway. So they doesn't seem like long term collection pieces.

Nevertheless, the audio interviews are quite fun and maybe more informative than the written ones. I'm not sure if they take a little more time to go through, though. The videos didn't really work fluently and my issue didn't have any interesting ones anyway.

Private seems quite interesting, but is it also only in black and white?

I second Peter's suggetion above. It's one of the best I've come across, and no it is not only in black and white.

I'd still give LFI a try. It really is an inspirational mag even without all the Leica atuff. There are some truly amazing shots in there.

Most 'photography' magazines are merely the haunts of old-man hobbyists and equipment hoarders which is why I subscribe to National Geographic. It hands down has the best landscape photography on the planet along with Arizona Highways.
