farnz Posted January 20, 2009 Share #3 Posted January 20, 2009 Caryl, I have the black, metal filter adaptor and c-pol filter for the LX3, which fit my D-Lux 4 perfectly. I bought them from a Japanese vendor on that online auction site. Pete.

carylwithay Posted January 21, 2009 Author Share #5 Posted January 21, 2009 Thank you all. I have been researching the internet and found a company at lensmateonline.com that is going to have a filter about the end of January that appears to be just a small filter without that tube. I hope so. What is the point of having a beautiful small camera that has to have all those large attachments just to protect the lens. Caryl

They first announced a lens adapter several weeks ago, and it's only in the past week or two they've added the "by end of January" bit. I plan on buying one or two of these and adding B+W filters (UV, circular polarizer, etc.). Should be a good solution both for protection and for effects. Jeff. carylwithay Posted January 21, 2009 Author Share #8 Posted January 21, 2009 Oh dear. I called leica and was tole the lens has a scratch resistant coating so I may just be careful as I am with my fisheyes and hope for the best. I do not understand why it is so difficult to make a flat filter since there are threads with which to attach it. Caryl

I do not understand why it is so difficult to make a flat filter since there are threads with which to attach it.Caryl Simple, really. Because the lens extends forward from the camera, and then retracts back again, both when you power up/down, and when you use the zoom. So any lens adapter has to be long enough to accommodate the lens movement. It also has to be wide enough so you don't experience vignetting when the lens is at the various positions away from the body. I think they (Panasonic, Lensmate, etc) determined that 46mm was the smallest diameter that would achieve that. Jeff.

The Lensmate is the filter holder --- filters sold separately. And yes, 46mm is large, but any smaller and the tube (adapter) would cause vignetting. Jeff.
