audidudi Posted January 14, 2009 Share #3 Posted January 14, 2009 Well ... I don't know what to say, actually. Not to my taste, but I appreciate your enthusiasm and the workmanship ... congratulations!

Overgaard Posted January 14, 2009 Share #5 Posted January 14, 2009 I really love this brownish Digilux 2 and I think I'll be following in your footsteps soon on something of that kind. But I think I'll keep the Leica strap I use (which is the simple and very light and discrete M strap and not the original one that went with the Digilux 2). I like that the Digilux 2 is so discrete and easy to carry unnoticed (and doesn't weight much either), together with it's soundless operation. So I'm in doubt as to how much attention I want to put onto the camera. But a brownish look, discrete, towards the limited Leica MP edition that was done a couple of years ago (I think it was a Hermes edition). Your cameras and bags are very gentlemen-like. As I mostly look like a military outfit or as if I just came from the Amazon jungle when I'm photographing, the bags might be a bit too nifty for my appearance. And I believe a camera should be over the shoulder. But I would like to find a city bag though that could carry a 15" or 13" laptop as well as a D2 in the front pocket. That would work because I'm often around, with a camera, but not necessarily out and about for photographing. But I haven't found it yet though I have looked at the National Geographic bags, Fjallräven and others. But all in all, I must say this is the most tasteful customization I've seen of any Leica camera so far. It's very much my taste. But I guess it's like pimping cars i some way. One might not always agree what people do when they go all the way in pimping or customizing their cars (and I'm the type who like special cars, but in 100% original shape), but I've noticed one important thing with people in cars that are "too much": They always have company of one, two or three girls who seem to enjoy the ride! So who knows what you will pick up with these cameras, except for more great pictures :-) Congratulations, and I might put a photo or two on my Digilux 2 site if it's okay with you. salsa Posted January 14, 2009 Share #6 Posted January 14, 2009 The first brownish one is splendid. Just need to add a bigger RAW-buffer and a slightly better viewfinder and we'll have a Digilux 2.2 for Fotokina 2010. Cheers, Salsa

The Journal entry, as with all my Digilux 2 entries link back to your page as well. On your comment about carrying over the shoulder, I couldn't agree more. I love how (unlike my Canon guns) this camera drapes over a shoulder and behind your arm so effortlessly. And, I must tell you, the leather straps add to that comfort. The Leicatime straps are so soft that they actually have some elasticity to them... you hardly realize they're there and they stay tucked in the crux of your neck and shoulder. Unfortunately, we don't get to walk so much in the states. We have to get from point A to point B by car.... and even then, when we do walk... it's only from point B parking to point B ultimate destination. The bags will more often than not, stay with the car... and the camera slipped over the shoulder. I'm so pleased with the brown camera that I'm "almost" a bit disappointed in the black. Of course, I could always do another one... - and the black lizard will go nice with a tuxedo. Let me know which picture(s) you want. I'll get you copies without watermarks. Thanks for the feedback. But I haven't found it yet though I have looked at the National Geographic bags, Fjallräven and others. Not to take anything away from JT's fine bags, but an American luggage maker by the name of Hartmann has made some fine leather bags that will accomplish exactly what you've outlined above. I have one and as you can see below, it not only holds my D2 (with 3 spare batteries, an external viewfinder, SD card reader, and ND and Polarizer filters), but my MacBook Black and charger, Palm Pilot, Glucometer, external mouse, Kindle, external HD, noise-canceling headphones, and my little fishing tackle box full of misc. office supplies. Alas, these bags are no longer in production, but new old stock ones do turn up on eBay every so often and they're usually priced fairly reasonably, especially given their all-leather construction. (For example, I just bought another one of these, new and unused, as a spare last October and paid just US$145 for it ... quite a bargain!) Welcome, dear visitor! wparsonsgisnet Posted January 14, 2009 Share #9 Posted January 14, 2009 John, I notice from the nice pix that you use the center weighting option for your metering. Is that what the circle is, center weighting? I have been using the middle setting, which I think is a multi reading weighting. Since all your dials are set the same this is obviously your preferred setting. What is the benefit of this metering to you? Maybe I should have my stupid assistant change this setting. Thanks and regards,

Beautiful pictures and a very thorough and interesting read on your journal. Now you only need to find the perfect hand strap for those of us newbies who like to carry it that way! Congrats on your newly clad beauties - it looks like clothes for the emporer - but certainly not like the emporer's new clothes! cheers, karspoul

Thanks and regards, Actually, mine were shot using the "pattern" metering... the center position with the dot and circle. I typically work with that setting in general scenes.... close ups I'll work with spot to find "the spot" I want to use. The two camera photos were not taken by me. So I'm not sure of the settings there. I think Audidudi's shot was center weighted. John
Overgaard Posted January 15, 2009 Share #12 Posted January 15, 2009 Middle setting here as well, almost always. Sometimes spot-metering (the dot only) if I want to be able to adjust the light quickly (by pointing towards a middle-grey, a bit darker than that for lighter metering, or a bit lighter to darker metering - then lock that metring by pressing shutter half down, reframe and press shutter fully). But the center-weighted (the middle one) is almost as good as the lightmeter in the R8/R9 to figure out the light correct in most shots.
audidudi Posted January 15, 2009 Share #13 Posted January 15, 2009 I think Audidudi's shot was center weighted. I just checked the LC1 I took that photo with and you are correct, Sir! I typically use the pattern or spot metering but must have bumped it or otherwise changed it unintentionally. I suppose you can also tell my bedroom was dimly lit at that hour of the morning and I bounced my OLY FL-40 flash off the ceiling?
Ruhayat Posted January 15, 2009 Share #14 Posted January 15, 2009 What good fortune! The rubber surround on my D2 is starting to come off; the brown leather look is definitely appealing. I have a bag with similar design to Audi's, thanks to him (I searched for this type of bag after seeing the photo of his messenger bag posted in another thread). But mine is made of a material that feels like felt (got it from French Connection), so is not as protective. I've had to fashion a guard for it. But the generous side pockets are indeed very useful. If that is the case, then our friend Luigi does a super range in leather. That's what my Digilux 2 sports.

That's what my Digilux 2 sports. It is beautiful, but that was not what I meant. I meant a hand strap like the ones on ebay. The type that is fastened to the tripod mount hole. I have tried the Zling variant and nameless ebay versions and they don't fit

See about 3/4 of the way down this web page: http://www.leicatime.com/a000-STRAPS-page.htm I own two of Luigi's cases and three neck straps --- they are wonderful! Jeff.
