ho_co Posted January 9, 2009 Share #1 Posted January 9, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Like many of us, I've been a bit nonplussed by Leica's latest round of price increases. But then on Wednesday I stopped off to buy a couple six-packs of Grolsch. Previously the purchase ran to something like US$11.98, but this time the same merchandise came to US$16.35. That's a change of just under 36.5%. I know, businesses selling alcohol tend to show increased sales in times of economic downturn. Perhaps we should look at Leica the same way? Both beer and Leica offer a quick and comfortable way to get just a little more out of the day, don't you think? To be sure, the dollar is stronger against the euro and we might expect a lower price, but we shouldn't begrudge the company its little effort to hedge against future fluctuations, should we? I mean, should we?

I mean, should we? If people are like that, that is ready to pay little more, China wouldn't be what it is today. People simply love to pay less. And to be very dissapointed when others want to pay for their prodiuct less too I am allways amused hearing people who buys products made in China, demonastrate why others buys products they make also from China and not from them (of course more expancive because of labour cost ) For example, I am buying less expancive clothing made in China and whining why people don't buy expencive (I want high sallary, you know) shoes I make here. lct Posted January 9, 2009 Share #3 Posted January 9, 2009 ...we shouldn't begrudge the company its little effort to hedge against future fluctuations, should we?... I would help with pleasure if i had the feeling that Leica is capable to make some money with its current and next products but i fail to comprehend how they could achieve this basic goal with overpriced crop bodies so far so i prefer keeping or buying legacy lenses that i can use with Japanese bodies in case of catastrophe. Guest Luis D Posted January 9, 2009 Share #4 Posted January 9, 2009 Who has great love for Leica will accept whatever they decide to do. It has been this way for many years. Who thinks Leica as one more manufacture of cameras along with the rest, will decide himself based on if price raises are sensible, especially in these times. Guest darkstar2004 Posted January 12, 2009 Share #6 Posted January 12, 2009 I'm going to try to do my part in 2009 by purchasing a new Summarit M 75mm, even though Herr Kaufmann did not send me a thank you card when I got my Noctilux last year...
