Primrose Hill at Night

Louis,

Very special, with the yellows and the blues! Strange landscape!

Marco

Marco, you are right about the tones and colours. This was (obviously) a tripod shot where I literally let the M8 do its own thing. I kept getting what I felt was an over-exposed shot. Below is a version where I deliberately compensated by -2EV to try and reduce the result to what I was seeing. However, in terms of impact I think the original version has more interest because of the lighting than the more realistic version which is a lot darker.

This is a great shot to showcase the M8 and the lens combination. Well done!

Although I prefer it to the second version posted, dollar for dollar, the little LX3 is very, very impressive - it's a shame it can't reproduce the starbursts like the 35 Lux Asph.

Thanks again for all the comments. In fact, the LX3 should create the starbursts. I only realised when looking at another thread by peter wayne that I should be turning off the OIS when the LX3 is mounted on a tripod as it can confuse the stabilisation and lead to blurring. If I can be bothered I may go up the hill again (for the third night in a row) and try the same shot again with the LX3 but with the OIS turned off.

Big -

Excellent in so many ways, but something about the color seems slightly "electronic" and I wonder if either just a bit darker and/or just a bit shifted would move this to the sublime.

I agree with Marco about the impact of the colors....

I've been back and forth between the two versions you posted. Simply can't make up my mind as to my preference.

It has to be a draw :)

All the best

Louis - I am beginning to think the M8 was made for just for you. I was obviously in the presence of a Master last Thursday - and I didn't know it. ;)

Spoken like a true acolyte :D

Seriously, all I did was put the camera on a tripod, set the timer to 2 secs, adjust the aperture for f5.6 and press the button..... the M8 did the rest.

....but thanks for the complement.

Louis,

A wonderful capture, thanks for showing.

Can I suggest that the sky in No 1 is depressed a little to sit more comfortably with the night scene. To me, it seems more like day light in the top 1/3. Only a suggestion, BL.

I agree, I have been a bit lazy... I need to play with layers and try to effect a more graduated feel as the sky is too light. I'm going back on Saturday as I think the moon will be near full and in just the right place.... if there is no cloud cover.
