gdb Posted October 16, 2006 Share #1 Posted October 16, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Dear Everyone A month ago, I told you in another thread about my stolen outfit. First of all, I want to say thank you once again with all my heart to many of you for their sympathetic messages, whether pubilc or private. It is very supportive to see how many of you reacted to what happened to me. Now, one month later, I just want to tell you that I will rebuild what I lost. A very dear friend among the Leica forum community sent me his Lumix FZ20 all along from New York "as a loan" he said! But the underlying meaning was quite different... My 33 year-old girlfriend (she is not 33: we just met 33 years ago!!!) offered to help me acquire 2 Leica lenses: So after meditating whether I would go the M8 route or stick to the R system, I finally decided to get the 90 Summicron Asph R and the Apo-Elmarit-R 180. I should have them tomorrow. For other lenses (I terribly regret the 19mm Elmarit), and for the camera, I'll wait. I probably won't have any other zoom. I cannot afford another R9/DMR now, but I'll save for the next R (R10?). Meanwhile, my brother offered me to use his Canon EOS 350D, and I bought an adapter with which I can use my 60mm macro-Elmarit ( the only lens that stayed at home...). Then browsing eBay, I found another adapter that could interest many of you: it's made by REXSON, a company located in Hong-Kong, and it has a chip with contacts for the EOS body that allows focus confirmation in the finder. It costs around 70 $. I received it yesterday. I first thought that it would only work with the recent lenses. . So I tried it with the Macro-Elmarit, a three-cam lens but without contacts, and IT WORKS !!! and my Macro-Elmarit has been bought in 1988 !!! You really have focus confirmation in the finder, and it is as quick as autofocus with the Canon's automatic lenses. I think I will write this to Leica to encourage them to launch a digital reflex with focus confirmation. I will be posting some examples soon. Very sincerely Gérard

cpclee Posted October 16, 2006 Share #5 Posted October 16, 2006 I'm all for Leica adding focus confirmation in the next R. (All the more nifty if the precision is user-selectable.) Why not start a poll/petition and see how many people are interested? I think many of us would be willing to pay extra for this feature. (It shouldn't be too hard for Leica to do this now that they own a controlling share of Sinar. Sinar has an AF camera in their lineup.)

gdb Posted October 17, 2006 Author Share #10 Posted October 17, 2006 Sorry! I misspelled the name of the brand that sells this adapter: the right name is ROXSEN and not REXSON. There is another brand you can find on eBay called LILYBOX. They seem to do the same thing. It's worth trying! Gérard
